Mirrors are one of the essential attributes of an interior. Over time, their value increases. Antique products are a rarity. They have grace and gloss, which are deprived of modern options. But you can artificially give the model a touch of antiquity, using special techniques for this.
One of such techniques is placement in a baguette frame, the decor of which is made in the old style. With the same success, it is really possible to choose the option of designing a mirror in the following styles:
- Modern,
- Loft,
- Provence
- Shabby chic;
- High tech;
- Country or friend.
This is relative to the decor of the frame. And methods of fastening in a frame made in any style will not differ significantly.

Mounting the mirror on the wall is most often performed using metal plates, in which loops for hanging the object are arranged. Work begins with gluing metal plates with special glue directly on the mirror from the back, called the amalgam. The wooden frame serves as a decor.
IMPORTANT:The internal dimensions of the length and width of the frame should be 1 cm less than the length and width of the mirror.
To fix the mirror in the frame, it is placed face down on a flat surface of the table. From above they lay it with an amalgam up and attach it to the frame along its inner perimeter with small cloves. Before driving in cloves (or shooting), small pieces of fiberboard or other emollient material that prevents damage, softens and tightens contact points with clove. You can fix the mirror with metal pads, under which soft gaskets are also laid.
How to fix the mirror in the frame? For products of small sizes, the method of hanging on a wall without gluing metal plate-loops is acceptable. D-shaped metal loops are suitable for this. They are screwed directly to the back of the frame, which has a thickness and a width that allows this to be done.
A fairly strong rope is stretched between the loops, capable of holding a suspended object.
If you plan to place a mirror in a kitchen, bathroom or other room with high humidity, the amalgam must be protected from moisture so that it does not oxidize and does not fade. To this end, glue or liquid nails are gently squeezed out of the back of the mirror (where there is space between it and the frame), bypassing this “sausage” around the entire perimeter.
IMPORTANT: Glue or liquid nails should be without hardeners, since the acid base included in the hardeners will lead to tarnishing of the amalgam.
Small products can be fixed in the frame with liquid nails alone or glue without hardeners.
Mounting the mirror to a metal frame
The following tools are suitable for fastening to metal:
- Car glue;
- Two-component epoxy adhesive;
- Clay "Crystal Moment";
- High temperature silicone;
- Double-sided tape.
If the frame can be drilled and the decor is not affected, fastening can be done using metal tabs.
Possible problems during operation
When fixing the mirror in the frame and placing it on the wall, it should be borne in mind that it is noticeably heavier than the picture and the mounting means must withstand its weight.
To create a strong adhesion of glass to metal, their surfaces should be cleaned of dirt, dust, degrease and remove paint. Before gluing the surface, slightly warm with a hairdryer so that their temperature is 30 degrees higher than indoors. Do not heat strongly so that the mirror does not burst.
Do not use open fire for heating, since glass is smoked.
The frame or baguette to which the product is attached must have a clear geometry, the wood must be well dried. If this condition is not met, drying of the wood can lead to distortion of reflection.
