Unlike bulky furniture, which in case of aging and wear is replaced by us with ease, it is more difficult to part with a coffee table. In support of this statement, there is a huge amount of video materials that give advice and clearly show what can be done so that the coffee table is still useful. Paradoxically, most of us perceive this furniture as something "native", so cozy and compact and give a "new life". How? Decorate it in various ways for any style, which we will talk in more detail.

New life of an old coffee table

As you know, demand creates supply, therefore, in the public domain there are a large number of various options for how to decorate a table with your own hands. It turns out, having the mood to “create”, and at hand fragments of tiles, pebbles, paint, and even trivial wallpaper can turn an old coffee table into a real masterpiece.

As mentioned earlier, there are many different techniques, but we will talk about such as decoupage, in the photo you can see examples.

Decoupage Types

This is a decor that involves applying to the surface of an object applications made of fabric or paper. You can also meet the definition that this is an imitation of the mural. One of the types is artistic. This term applies to a product that is artificially aged, added the "Web Effect", this technique is used by experienced craftsmen who can draw.

A simpler and more actively gaining popularity is the napkin. The name applies to decoupage using napkins, newspaper clippings, photographs for “paper media”. If we use wipes, then it's easier. You can take several of them from the finished packaging, and they will be identical in one thematic and color scheme. When using newspaper clippings, difficulties will also not arise. Harder to pick photos.

IMPORTANT. Photos should be of a general theme, and here you need to adhere to the rule: color and black and white photographs should not be combined.

Surface preparation

We take large emery paper and carefully remove the previous coating from the surface of the coffee table. You can put a roll on a kitchen rolling pin.

IMPORTANT: This step is preferably carried out in a medical gauze mask and plastic glasses. Cleaning products can get into the respiratory tract and eyes, and these precautions will not be out of place.

Action algorithm

So, the countertop is prepared, go to the next steps.

• Putty.
• We apply the soil.
• We color. To do this, we use exclusively acrylic paint, which must be applied in three layers. After applying each, allow to soak.

NOTE. After each of the above steps, our future product must be left to dry for at least four and a half hours.

• Apply a solution of glue and water. We take proportions so much as much glue and water.

We proceed to the preparation of the drawing. To do this, we gently cut off the napkins (with our hands, and not with scissors) the fragments we need. The bright side is placed one on a dense film and treated with glue in its pure form. After that, we turn the film with the picture on the prepared countertop.

• Thus, we act with each element. We wait until everything dries.

IMPORTANT. Glue should be applied with a wide brush.

• We paint the surface again, but this time we achieve a slight coloring of the contours of our drawings. Thus, the transition will look more natural.
• The final stage is varnishing.

Fabric decoupage

We follow the entire algorithm, as well as for decoupage with napkins until the moment inclusive, as we applied a solution of glue and water. Next, the procedure will be as follows:

• a scarf with patterns, a fabric (possibly a uniform shade) is well smoothed with an iron and put on a countertop.
• securely fasten the ends of the scarf under the countertop.
• apply glue with a wide brush.

IMPORTANT. Glue is distributed from the center to the corners of the scarf. Do not forget to glue the ends of the scarf under the countertop.

• after our coating has thoroughly dried, cover it with a clear varnish. It will take about eight layers, each of which must first be dried.

NOTE. Drying the layers of glue and varnish is desirable on the street, as toxic fumes can be released.
