The volume buttons on the laptop do not work: search for reasons, tips for setting up sound

On the laptop there are buttons on which the speakers are drawn. They are responsible for adding and decreasing sound. On some models, they are located in a separate row, while on others these are F11 and F12 buttons or arrow keys. For them to work, you must simultaneously press Fn. If the computer does not respond at all, this indicates a problem with the PC. They need to be discovered and eliminated.

Finding the reason why the volume keys do not work on the laptop

They are divided into software and hardware. The first are settings:

• In the OS.
• In an audio player.
• In the audio controller.
• In the driver update.

Hardware issues:

• Defective speakers or headphones.
• The speakers on the computer itself broke down.
• Updating or reinstalling drivers is required.
• The sound card “flew”.

In the latter case, the problem cannot be solved independently. The equipment must be referred for repair, so that experienced specialists can see it.

Usually the reason is hidden in the settings in the management service. There are several ways to check this:

1. Using the "Personalization" window. Open the “Sound” tab and check the settings there. You can see which playback scheme is involved, which audio applications are used, and more.
2. Check the volume level in the notification area. At the bottom of the screen, next to the date and time, there is a speaker icon. Click on it with the left mouse button and see if the sound is completely muted. There you can adjust its level.

If the sound is added, but the volume buttons still do not work, make sure that automatic access to HID is set:

1. In the search for a laptop, type “View local services” and go there.
2. In the Services tab, find “HID Device Access”.
3. Make sure the service is turned on. If not, select Run.
4. Go to "Properties".
5. In the "General" tab, select the automatic startup type and confirm by clicking "OK".

• The speakers. Check the operation of the built-in speakers. Connect portable speakers or headphones and see if the problem persists. If the problem is not solved, then you need to change the dynamics.
• Sound manager. The button may not work due to the sound manager. This is a specially installed program. The application is usually displayed in the lower right corner. If it is missing, then you need to reinstall it or enable the update.

• Drivers When the cause of the problem is in the drivers, you need to go to the device manager and click on “Sound devices”. If they are disabled, enable. When there is an exclamation mark next to the device, the driver must be reinstalled.

• Bios. Step-by-step actions: Go to Bios, find “Advanced”, select the item with the word audio, if “Disabled” is next to it, change it to “Enabled”.

• Rollback system. This is the fastest way to solve a problem without delving into its essence. To do this, in the search line in the start menu you need to type "System Reset". After that, restore it, following the prompts.

If you can’t fix the problem yourself, it’s better not to improvise and contact the service center. This will help to avoid undesirable consequences and not break the PC at all.
