The standard keyboard for a PC or laptop is divided into several parts, one of which is the so-called digital unit. Many users who are used to typing numbers through it, and not through the top line of keys, where numbers are also present, have problems activating this block.
Many users ask this quite reasonable question, referring to the fact that numbers can be entered through the upper ranks, however, not everything is so simple. The fact is that the side block with numbers on a laptop (as in the case with a personal computer) has a more convenient structure for performing various calculations. Such an input device is usually used by those who somehow deal with numbers, since it has a "calculator" type of structure.
How to turn on and off the side keyboard?
In order to turn on the side keyboard or turn it off so as not to interfere with the work of accidental taps, there are several methods:
- Click on Num Lock
- Using the Fn + f11 Combination
- Using an alternate on-screen keyboard
Important!
Not on all modern laptops, the Num Lock key is present, so do not be surprised if you do not find one on your laptop.
If “Num Lock” is still present, you can usually find it in the upper right part of the “clave”. The main function of this key is simple: turn on and off the block of numbers, however, many developers do not miss opportunities to save “usable area”, and attach another function to this key (for example, Scroll Lock).
Simultaneous pressing of the Fn + f11 keys on the keyboard performs the same function as the key described above, however, this combination works more often only on those devices where there is no digital “clave” at all, and a separate block of digital keys is activated or deactivated by pressing this combinations.
Important! The above combination is not universal, and does not work on all laptop models.
Some manufacturers have assigned the function of activating / deactivating the number block to the Fn + F10 or F12 key combinations. When experimenting with combinations, you should press each combination of keys twice, so as not to accidentally "screw up" with parameters like turning off the sound or turning off the screen.
As for the use of the on-screen “keyboard,” this method is extremely simple, and is suitable for those laptops in which the digital block is not provided by the developers at all. By activating the on-screen keyboard in this case, the user will be able to see an analogue on the screen own “keyboard” of the device, in which, again, there may not be either a digital block or a key Num Lock In this case, it will be necessary to go to the application settings, and in them tick off the display item of the digital keyboard. After that, the on-screen analogue of the “keyboard” should take the form familiar to every PC user.
In order to find the on-screen keyboard, you need to go to standard programs after clicking on the "Start" button, and then to the "Accessibility" item. In the subfolder that opens, you can see the On-Screen Keyboard application, which you need to run.
