Nasturtium - unpretentious garden flower, which can be an excellent decoration for a curb flower bed or flower garden. There are more than 70 varieties of this plant. Among them there are red, yellow, orange and purple flowers.

Grades of nasturtium are usually divided into:

  • smooth;
  • semi-double;
  • terry.

Grades with smooth flowers should be planted in the open ground not earlier than mid-May, terry and semi-double nasturtium planted at the end of May. In regions of Russia with a cold climate, capuchins are grown in seedlings. In order to get quality seedlings in a short time, seeds of nasturtium must be planted in hot wood sawdust.

Preparing the container for seedlings

For growing seedlings, you can use a transparent plastic container. In it, shoots will get more sunlight. In the bottom of the container make drainage holes and fill it with sawdust.

If you do not have the opportunity to find wood sawdust, buy pellets for cat litter at the pet store. They contain sand and compressed sawdust.

The layer of sawdust should be at least 5 cm thick, in order for the root system of nasturtium to have room for development. Then pour the pellets with hot water.

Seedling of nasturtium seeds in total capacity

So that the seeds quickly give seedlings, do not bury them in sawdust. Plant nasturtium should be at depth, see. Seeds of nasturtium will take root in sawdust and give friendly shoots within four days. To accelerate the emergence of seedlings, the container with seedlings is covered with a cellophane package.

After the appearance of the first shoots, the container with the seedlings needs to be opened, since the greenhouse effect negatively affects the aboveground part of the plants.

After the nasturtium forms two seven-leafed leaves, it is planted in sandy loam soil with the addition of garden perlite into separate containers, which are put in glasses with water.

In order to increase the amount of water that will flow into the seedling, one of the drainage holes needs to pass a tube from the dropper. The plant will always receive water from the lower tank, and you do not have to monitor the moisture of the soil. Periodically add water to the bottom container.

Glasses with seedlings must be put on the south window sill. Then the flowers can be planted in the open ground.
