What is monitor response time?

The response of the display is the smallest length of time for which a pixel must change the brightness of its glow. This period is measured in milliseconds. New technologies are being improved - to replace the CRT came liquid crystal displays, such as TFT and LCD. These displays are designed so that the cells of the matrix change their brightness only when a certain signal is received that controls them. And this recall period determines the highest speed with which the image is replaced on the monitor.

How to check monitor response time

To check the deadline, you can use three methods:

1. BWB (BtB). Defines the period during which the image element changes its color from black to white and again to black.
2. Btw. Shows the action from the off state to the glow turned on to the maximum.
3. Gtg. Defines the amount of time for which the point changes the brightness of gray from 90% to 10%. This usually takes 1–2 ms.

Drawing a conclusion on all verification methods, we can say that only the first of them will show the most correct working cycle. You can check the switching using the TFT Monitor Test program. When starting up, select the test symbol in the menu and indicate the available display resolution. As a result, the result will be issued, that is, the requested time. But you should not completely trust the results, since in fact the full operation of the pixels is checked only by the photosensor. And the pop-up results of the program can only be understood by the manufacturers of this monitor.

It is also recommended to conduct TFT Monitor Test with the “white square” mode. The screen on which the white figure moves is watched by an observer. And depending on the trace of the square, the response is calculated. The longer the tail of a given figure, the more time is devoted to switching the matrix, which indicates its poor properties.

As for the response period of the display during the game, it should reach the minimum indicators, since in this case even the smallest fraction of a second can solve everything. What is the best monitor response time?

The shorter the response period of the display, the better, since the pictures then become sharper and do not negatively affect a person’s vision. With a long response period, artifacts arise - for example, where there should already be a black picture, the monitor displays white or an object is displayed that has already disappeared from the camera’s field of view. If a person constantly focuses his vision on blurry pictures, then this can adversely affect the health of the eyes, headaches, a constant feeling of tiredness will appear.

How to change monitor response time

There is no way to modify the response period of the display, since the properties of the matrix and its controller do not allow it to be done using a variety of programs or replacing a video card. Only replacing the display can change these properties, since its layers are responsible for creating the image.

Manufacturers producing screens call this feature a response time compensation - given for a pixel a few milliseconds for which a pulse with a high voltage indicator is applied, and it switches faster. If the line highlighted on the display - Gaming Mode, then it can be adjusted.
