Every summer resident has to look at an overgrown area every two weeks. Weeding it is very time consuming. It's good that a lawn mower was invented back in 1832. Today, such equipment can cost from 50 thousand rubles and more. For a person living on an average salary in Russia, a lawn mower is a rather expensive purchase. That is why now you can find a large number of ways to make it yourself from improvised means, without letting money down the drain.

DIY lawn mower engine

It can be taken from such devices:

• old vacuum cleaner;
• washing machine;
• Bulgarian;
• drill;
• chainsaw.

An excellent option would be an electric motor, the power of which starts at 400 watts. Although the optimal indicator will be 600 watts.

If you take a smaller one, you have to sharpen knives quite often. There should be at least 3 of them in a lawnmower, which means that sharpening them takes a lot of time, which can be spent profitably. The engine must be

asynchronous: its mechanism makes working with the unit less noisy. Mount the engine to the mower shaft down - to twist the cutter.

Frame and assembly

Ordinary plywood with a thickness of at least 8-9 mm may be suitable for the motor, but it is always better to use a sheet of metal with a thickness not less than 4 mm. Its size should not be large (40–55 cm). In the center of the sheet or plywood, you need to drill a hole for the motor shaft to which the cutter will be attached.

The frame can be made from a part of an old stroller, cart, or you can weld it yourself using metal pipes. The casing should be high.

It is recommended to remove the rust from the iron. The mechanical way to get rid of corrosion is with metal brushes. Chemical - by means of acetic, sulfuric, citric acid or a mixture of phosphoric and tartaric acids.

Wheels - metal, covered with rubber on top, diameter - 50–70 mm. If it is less, then the wheels will be hard to drive, and the mechanism can easily break. If, on the contrary, it is larger, then the resistance of the grass will increase. It will stop cutting and wrinkle. The number of wheels is four, but there are variants with two, which, however, break down quickly.

It is recommended to put a switch on the body for comfortable operation, which will come in handy in case of an unforeseen situation.

The knives should be fastened with bolts so that during movement they can move freely relative to the body, that is make the cutter assembled. This will help with a minor accident, such as a child's toy lying on the ground or a stone. The knife will not hit with all its strength, which would lead to breakage. It will neatly bend under the body and straighten after going around the object during the action of the electric motor.

The knives must be made of high quality steel, sharpened stronger further from the base. You need to work with them as carefully as possible for a visible result. Deku can be made from an old skillet.

Near the knives, using a small concave sheet of metal, you need to build a protective bumper that will prevent grass from falling into a person.

It is recommended to make a collection bag so that most of the grass does not remain on the ground. It can be made of fabric, but in this case it will tear quickly, so it is better to make it from a hard material, such as plastic.

It is recommended to cover the housing with a protective paint or varnish: it will protect the device from rust and transform its appearance.

How a lawn mower works

Briefly, it can be represented by the following list of processes:

1. Electricity is transmitted from the socket to the switch.
2. From the switch along the wire, it moves to the electric motor.
3. Electricity drives the shaft.
4. The shaft of the electric motor begins to spin at an accelerated rate, spinning up the cutter.
5. The blades quickly mow the grass, and if they hit a heavy object, they bend inward without breaking the mechanism.
6. The grass falls into a collection bag, from where it can be removed afterwards.
7. If the bag is not present, it falls into the iron bumper, which prevents it from getting into the eyes of the person using the device. In this case, the grass falls to the ground.

Vacuum cleaner lawn mower

When disassembling a vacuum cleaner from an electric motor, you need to dismantle the turbine: we no longer need it. Instead, we attach a cutter with knives. After that, you need to connect the wire from the motor to the switch, and it to the outlet. For safety, an RCD should be used (residual current device).

It can have a high probability of breakage, so it is better to consider the following options. For the mobility of the unit, you can use a coil wire - one that will match the power of the electric motor.

Washing machine based

The motors from the washing machine are great in terms of power for a lawn mower. We remind you: it is better to take the asynchronous one, because it will emit much less loud sounds.

The body of the washing machine can be used for a lawn mower without wasting time creating a new one. This is perhaps the main advantage when choosing this method.

Based on the grinder

This option is one of the cheapest. We take the spinning disc from a circular saw so that the size corresponds to that required by the trimmer. At any time, you can replace the disc, change the diameter. This is another plus of this manufacturing method.

Chainsaw lawn mower

The frame should be cooked from pieces of pipe. First, we need to make a tubular telescopic shaft for the motor. Unscrew the tire from the chainsaw and "steering wheel", Take"asterisk». We put a piece of pipe with a circumference of 5 cm on it.

Before that, take another piece with a diameter of 5.8 cm, insert the first one into it. For pipe fastening we use high strength bolts M6, and they must be equipped with lock nuts.

After these works, the cutter should be welded to the shaft, then as in the standard version.

From a drill

It can be used to make both a large lawnmower and a more compact two-wheel trimmer. The drill should be attached to the frame along with the handle, the wire is pulled through the frame handle and connected to the network.

The best fit is slow speed drill. The motor, as in the case of the one that is recommended for use in a device made from a washing machine, must be asynchronous. The advantage is compactness, easy work in tight spaces.

Lawn mower rules

Recommended:

1. Before turning on the device, be sure to check each his detail. Make sure the wheels are screwed on, the knives are sharpened, the bumper protecting from the grass is not broken.
2. Clean up excess trash from the working area.
3. Warn and fence people and animals from the impact of the lawn mower.
4. Absolutely forbidden use it in an area with an angle of more than 20 degrees, on a wet lawn, in the rain, in poor lighting conditions.
5. Smoking and open flames are prohibited. A person should not forget about overalls and shoes, goggles.
6. For prolonged use, check the temperature of the engine as often as possible by bringing your hand to it, but not touching it.
