How to make your own knife holder

To prevent knives from creating a mess in the kitchen, wandering from table to table, you need to come up with an interesting and convenient place to store them. A special stand is ideal. But such a purchase is a costly pleasure, and finding a model that fits all the knives in the house is sometimes problematic. However, there is a solution, and it is very simple: you can make a stand yourself from scrap materials.

It is not difficult to create such a kitchen attribute. Stands can be horizontal or vertical. The choice of material is also huge: they are made from wood, plastic or plywood. Interesting models from old books, magnetic or filled. In a word, fantasies have a place to roam.

Types of stands

These devices can be conditionally divided into separate groups. So, in the classic kitchen of an average family, you can find the following options for coasters:

  1. Holders. They are wall-mounted and are suitable for small spaces where every inch of space is used. Such models will perfectly fit into any interior and are ideal for knives due to the fact that the metal is in the open air, rust does not form on it, and pathogenic bacteria do not accumulate. In addition, the holders are suitable not only for storing knives, but also for placing any other metal utensils.

  2. Shelves. As a rule, these are wooden structures that are located in a wall niche or above a cutting table on a railing. However, such models are not always practical: bacteria accumulate in the knife compartments, it is difficult to wash there; the knife can accidentally fall out and damage the tabletop; easily injured if the tool is pulled out carelessly (for example, grabbing the blade instead of the handle). It's realistic to make such a design yourself, but it's troublesome. In addition, very decent options are sold in stores.
  3. Racks. Perhaps the most common option. It is a vertical, most often wooden structure with special compartments for knives. A professional carpenter can do this on his own, so most often it is bought together with a set of knives.
  4. Universal glasses with fillings. An interesting option that is easy to do on your own. Such a stand is a deep container made of thick glass or plastic, inside which cereals, legumes or even pasta are poured. The main disadvantage of a glass with a filler is that it will not work to store a large number of tools in it.

DIY stand options

To make such a kitchen appliance, you need a drop of imagination, a handful of patience and a creative impulse. We bring to your attention several interesting coasters, which even a non-professional can handle.

Wall mount

To make such a stand you need:

  • wooden sheet 35–75 cm long (depending on how many knives will be stored) and 5–8 cm wide;
  • drill;
  • glue like "Moment";
  • 5–8 round magnets (they must be strong for the knives to hold well);
  • two brackets to secure the stand;
  • nails;
  • a hammer.

First, you should start preparing the board. It needs to be polished and given the desired shape. Then, on the back side, make holes for the magnets (it is important to be guided by their size). The magnets are attached to the “holes” with glue. In addition, you can fix them with a plastic pad. After that, brackets are attached from the outside of the stand and the structure is placed on the wall.

Important! It is necessary to carefully approach the choice of the "place of residence" of the stand. It should not be mounted on a cabinet door, uneven wall, or where children can easily reach it.

Stand from old books

Perhaps the easiest option. For the manufacture of such a device you will need:

  • old thick books (each at least 300 pages);
  • rubber bands for banknotes.

This work will not require any special skills. Books should be stacked neatly and wrapped tightly with rubber bands. Such a stand will not last long, since the knives will damage the pages, and water (and its ingress is inevitable) has a destructive effect on the paper. But it is convenient to use it.

Glass filled

For the case, you can use a glass vase, a tin can, a wooden box. The filler can be anything. So, a stand with bamboo sticks or spaghetti looks stylish (especially if you paint them).

An interesting option is made of twigs of a plastic brush. To do this, at the hardware store you need to buy a broom and pull the twigs out of it. Their tips should be trimmed and folded tightly into the container.

The stand is decorated with artificial flowers, a beautiful rope, pebbles or shells. In addition, the filler can be combined, for example, alternating layers of cereals, pasta.

By the way! Loose materials must be changed periodically, as insects or mold can form in them.

So, the lack of a stand is not a problem. You just need to give free rein to imagination, and such a useful kitchen appliance will be ready. However, when making it, it is important to take into account that it is as safe and convenient as possible. For example, it is recommended to use quality materials and place the stand on a stable surface.
