Soviet habits in everyday life, which now seem to be wild

Our life is not only what is here and now, but also the memory of generations, when the upbringing of parents left traces on each of us. But it's one thing to remember your childhood, adolescence, youth. And it is quite another to carry through time the habits that adults taught us.

Whatever one may say, but life over the decades has not just changed, but has turned upside down so much that some the peculiarities of housekeeping are now perceived as something funny and ridiculous, and sometimes even a little strange.

Fry everything

Soups, borscht, stews, stewed potatoes, saute - all these dishes were accompanied by fried onions and carrots. And all this was fried not in refined oil, but on that one - fragrant and not deodorized.

Now such a recipe will horrify the fans of healthy food, who can afford only a drop of oil or even stewing with water alone. However, then we did not complain, because it was really tasty and very nutritious, although now such cooking is not popular.

Boil the laundry

This habit has not yet left the everyday life of only a few people. And literally 20 years ago, boiling of linen was carried out always and everywhere. Boiling was not the main wash, but only an additional process that helped to get rid of old or difficult stains, to make things whiter and cleaner. Basically, bedding, underwear, shirts, tulle, towels were boiled.

Of course, this method did not have a positive effect on the fabric - it crawled and wore out faster. And what about the atmosphere in the house... everywhere there is steam, moisture, a pungent smell of some chemical compounds.

Today, the need for such a barbaric mockery of linen has categorically disappeared. First, there are stain removers and bleaches. Secondly, many washing machines are equipped with a pre-wash function. Third, powders are now of higher quality and efficiency.

Wash on a special board

This is another hellish way. Just remember our grandmothers and the suffering pose over the pelvis. At the same time, everything was accompanied by bruised fingers, back pain, migraines. You wouldn't wish that on your enemy now.

Washing on the board was almost a ritual. First of all, this saved water, especially if you consider that not all houses had it installed. Washing machines, even those primitive ones, also could be afforded by a few.

Now, if anyone has such boards, it is unlikely that they are used for their intended purpose. Nobody wants to wash in this way.

Wash packages

Previously, cellophane bags were in particular shortage, so they tried to save them. And if the bag was not torn, but did not differ in cleanliness, then it was simply washed, dried and used again.

Now such foresight seems at least strange, because there are thousands of these products on the market - for every taste, wallet, size and color.

Lay oilcloth

Wherever they tried to shove her. It seems like she was everywhere. Oilcloth was laid both on the tablecloth and under it, and for some reason they pasted over the walls with it, sometimes they upholstered the doors. In general, the oilcloth world. No one argues that the material is quite convenient and easy to clean. But at that time the oilcloth looked like something very bright and deafening - catchy shades could cause a headache. And everywhere there are flowers, flowers, flowers.

Nowadays, oilcloth is rare. She was replaced by glass tablecloths, which are also convenient to wash. But few people think of glueing it on the walls (if only not during repairs).

Darn tights

She just went to the store and got herself at least five hundred tights and stockings. And before, nylon products were in short supply. That is why our mothers and grandmothers had to sew them up if a hole appeared by accident or an “arrow” got in. And even when in a conspicuous place!

However, when the tights were completely worn out and could not be repaired, they also found use: they kept onions in them, sewed washcloths, made a sieve (for example, to grind berries into jam).

Turned blue and starch on the linen

In Soviet times, blue ink was in the arsenal of almost every housewife. This tool was used to refresh bed and other home textiles, give it color, make it saturated. They did not try to remove stains in this way - the blue was intended only for those cases when it was necessary to remove the grayness or yellowness of the linen. Today, this way of giving things color is not relevant.

The same applies to starching, which was used mainly for textiles, lace, clothing, bed linen, tablecloths, collars, school aprons to stiffen and protect against pollution.

We washed the windows with ammonia

Now this is also practiced, and it causes negative feelings. Ammonium is the most formidable evil that is used not in medicine, but in everyday life. The smell from it, to put it mildly, is unbearable, especially if you dilute it in the wrong proportion for cleaning windows.

Since the Soviet era could not boast of that range of glass products, the hostesses had to look for any solutions so that the windows shine and there were no stains. So we found it - ammonia, which, however, coped with its task at 100%. Now we can afford to buy a special compound, which also works very effectively.

Cleaned carpets with snow

Perhaps we all know how, with the arrival of the first heavy snowfall, the courtyards were filled with carpets and paths for the purpose of cleaning them. The items were placed right on the snowdrifts and were swept away with a thick layer of snow. Honestly, the wool really became cleaner, filled with freshness. Now this method is not practiced at all, and if you see something like this somewhere, it will most likely cause extreme bewilderment rather than nostalgia.

Today, the home appliance market is filled with powerful vacuum cleaners with a variety of functions that allow you to clean carpets to perfect condition.
