The principle of operation of a gas stove

From the gas main or from the cylinder, under the influence of pressure, gas is supplied to the gas pipeline, which is an integral part of the gas stove. Further, the fuel passes through the nozzle, enters the body of the burner, where it mixes with air and only then ignites, passing through the dividers.

Main gas differs from cylinder gas in terms of pressure parameters - this is the main and most common reason why nozzles need to be replaced. In other cases, most often you can limit yourself to simple maintenance without resorting to replacement.

What is a jet?

The jet is one of the main components of a gas stove. It ensures that sufficient blue fuel is supplied to the burner at the correct volume and pressure. Without a nozzle, the operation of a gas stove would generally be impossible.

Uneven flame

Deviations in the operation of the jets are immediately visible, they are noticeable by the yellow and red tongues of flame and soot on the dishes

By its shape, the jet resembles a bolt, in the head of which a through hole is arranged. The diameter of the hole must correspond to the pressure of the supplied fuel and the power of the burner.

It should be taken into account that the pressure of the main gas and the cylinder gas is significantly different, therefore, the diameter of the nozzle for these types of fuel will be different.

Stove nozzles

The jet regulates the pressure and ensures that gas is supplied to the burner in the required volume, equivalent to the volume of air required for a normal combustion process

To ensure the most efficient operation of the stove, to exclude the release of harmful products, the smoking factor, to normalize fuel consumption, you need install injectors, the dimensions and diameter of the outlet of which correspond to the requirements of the manufacturer of the gas stove.

Types of jets and their main characteristics

Jets or nozzles with hex head, external thread and longitudinal internal bore. Most of them are made of bronze.

Differences between jets

Jets for main and cylinder gas differ in thread length and diameter of the gas supply channel, which is associated with different fuel supply pressures

The end part is marked with information about the injector capacity. The unit of measurement is the volume of gas in cubic centimeters that a jet can pass in 1 minute.

Jets can be of two types - for natural gas (they differ in a large hole diameter and a shortened body), for liquefied gas (they differ in a smaller hole diameter and an elongated body, which is associated with a higher pressure).

The pressure in the cylinder exceeds the pressure in the gas line, which explains the smaller diameter in the head of the corresponding nozzle. The burner power is determined by its size, therefore the diameters of the holes in the corresponding nozzles will be different.

The diameter of the hole in the nozzle must correspond to the gas pressure:

  • Large burner - 1.15 mm (20 bar); 0.6 mm (50 bar); 1.15 mm (20 bar); 0.75 mm (30 bar).
  • Medium burner - 0.92 mm (20 bar); 0.55 mm (50 bar); 0.92 mm (20 bar); 0.65 mm (30 bar).
  • Small burner - 0.75 mm (20 bar); 0.43 mm (50 bar); 0.7 mm (20 bar); 0.5 mm (30 bar).
  • Burner in the oven - 1.2 mm (20 bar); 0.65 mm (50 bar); 1.15 mm (20 bar); 0.75 mm (30 bar).

It should be borne in mind that the incorrect operation of the jets can be caused not by a change in the type of fuel, but by a banal clogging of the outlet. In this case, you can clean the nozzles without having to replace them.

Nozzle cleaning technology

From time to time you have to change nozzles or clean them. The recommended frequency of the procedure is once a year.

Clogged nozzles impair the quality of the flame, leading to a decrease in the amount of heat generated. In addition, fuel consumption increases, which is undesirable for owners of equipment running on liquefied gas. The indicated fact will not suit the owners of housing with installed gas meters.

To clean the jets you will need:

  • Universal products - soda or vinegar, dishwashing detergent;
  • Dish cleaner;
  • Toothbrush;
  • Thin wire or needle.

Work begins with the removal of carbon deposits, soot and grease from the area where the jet is located. The nozzle must be unscrewed and soaked in detergent, in a solution of soda or vinegar.

Cleaning the nozzle

No special tools are required to clean the nozzles, just have a fine wire, a toothbrush and detergent on hand.

The outer surface can be cleaned with a toothbrush using common household cleaning powder. The nozzle orifice should be cleaned with a needle, sometimes blowing out with a pump or compressor is justified.

The cleaned and dried nozzle must be reinstalled. It should be noted that if there is a sealing gasket under the jet, it must be replaced.

Instructions for replacing injectors

If cleaning the nozzles does not give results, or you decide to switch from one type of blue fuel to another, then replacing the nozzles is simply necessary. It should be borne in mind that universal nozzles do not exist. Each model has its own characteristics.

Therefore, if the task is to re-equip the Hephaestus stove, then you need to buy a set of jets specifically for the unit of this brand. You can buy such a set in almost any specialized gas equipment store. If it is not available, you can always contact the official manufacturer or his representative.

Preparing the hob for replacing nozzles

Preparation for work on replacement of nozzles in the Hephaestus gas stove begins with shutting off the main gas supply valve or shutting off the valve on the cylinder. Next, you need to remove the grate and remove the burners. All this work is simple and does not require any tools.

If you look inside the holes that opened after removing the burners, then we will not see the jets themselves. This is due to the structural features of the slab. In most modern models, it is much easier to get to the jets. But in our case, everything is a little more complicated - the dismantling of the plate table is required.

Removing the hotplate

Taking out the burners, we see that access to the jets is impossible without dismantling the table - the upper metal panel fixed with screws

To dismantle the table, unscrew the screws using a Phillips screwdriver. In different models of Hephaestus slabs, the number of screws may be different. But they are all on the top of the table, in the front and back of it. After removing the screws, the table simply rises.

Sometimes, due to the ingress of fat, the table is not so easy to remove, it seems that it has stuck to the body. In this case, pry it off with a screwdriver or a sturdy knife. After removing the table, the body and the table itself must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt.

After removing the cover, we will see two metal strips, which are a kind of guides and are called traverses. The bodies of each of the four burners are attached to a crosshead.

All nodes have the same device. The only difference is the length of the pipeline through which the gas is delivered to the tip and from there through the nozzle enters the burner.

Traverse burners

The burners are attached to the traverse, all joints have the same design and differ only in the length of the pipeline

The burner body is rigidly attached to the pipeline, ensuring the reliability of the entire structure. The device is not complicated, but you need to understand it so that in the future there are no problems with dismantling the injectors and their subsequent installation, as well as with repair of the Hephaestus plate if necessary.

How to remove the jet correctly?

There is an opinion that you can change the jet without removing the table. This requires only a special tubular wrench. Yes, this is possible, but only in modern models with other design features.

Access to the jet

In modern models of gas stoves, you can replace the jets without having to dismantle the table, it is enough to remove the burner body

If we look closely at the structure, we will see that in our stove the tip of the pipeline is fixed in the burner body, so it is impossible to get to the nozzle without removing the table.

What keys are needed to remove the jet?

An 8 mm open-end wrench fits to the nozzle head; you can simply try to unscrew the nozzle. But this is a useless undertaking, usually the nozzle sticks during operation so that the tip simply turns around the pipeline.

The desire arises to fix the tip nut with another 14 mm wrench. The train of thought is logical and correct, but this is impossible, since the body of the burner becomes a hindrance.

How do I separate the jet tip from the torch?

To gain access to the tip nut, the tip itself must be disengaged from the torch body. The only hindrance is the curved plate retainer.

Removing the retainer

After removing the retaining plate, the piping with tip and nozzle can be easily released from the torch body

It is enough just to squeeze the plate and pull it towards you with a little effort. After removing the retainer, simply push down on the tubing, so the tip simply drops down, easily sliding out of the torch body.

Jet extraction methods

There are two ways to remove the jet from the tip. In the first case, it is enough to hold the tip nut with one key, and unscrew the jet with the other. If for some reason it is not possible to easily turn the jet out, then you can resort to the second method.

It is more comfortable to work if the jet with the tip is in the hands, and not fixed to the pipeline. It is enough just to pull the tip towards you, and it will be released from the pipeline. Now you can make your work much easier. The tip nut can be clamped in a vise and the jet can be unscrewed easily without fear of damaging the pipeline.

Removal from the pipeline

After disconnecting the tip with the nozzle from the pipeline, you can unscrew the nozzle from any convenient position

Each of the nozzles for the Hephaestus gas stove, like any nozzle for any other brand and model of the stove, has its own marking. Therefore, it is not necessary to remember the position of the jets when removing them from the tips. There will be no problems with the subsequent installation.

Pipe O-rings

The design of the jet and its connection to the tip does not involve the use of any sealing strips. However, a gas leakage safety device does exist. It should be noted that after removing the tip from the pipeline, the rubber ring usually remains inside it.

Sealing ring

After removing the nozzle with a tip, the O-ring must be removed from the body of the latter and returned to the pipeline

To prevent it from getting lost during the removal of the jet, it must be removed from the tip and installed on the pipeline. If the jets are being replaced, then together with them it is advisable to purchase a set of rings in order to perform their replacement too.

Jets Installation Procedure

After completing the work on removing the nozzles from the tips, you can immediately start installing them. All work is carried out in the reverse order.

First, use a wrench to screw the nozzle into the tip. After that, put the tip on the pipeline, lift it to the burner body and install, while returning the fixing plate to its original place.

On this, the replacement of the nozzles in the burners of the gas stove can be considered complete, it remains only to put the table in place and secure with screws.

Replacing the nozzle in the oven

As in the case of replacing the nozzles in the burners, preparatory work is indispensable. Getting to the jets in the oven is also not so easy. And if, in the case of the burners, we had to dismantle the table, then to replace the nozzles in the oven, we need to either disassemble the floor, and in a difficult case, remove the left side wall.

Let's go in order - the jet is located in the nozzle body behind the plate wall on the left side. To get to it, you need to open the lid of the lower drawer, fully open the oven door and pull the floor towards you - it should be easily removed.

Replacing the nozzle from the oven

The oven burner is a curved tube secured with two screws that must be removed. The jet is located inside the nozzle body.

Jet inside the case

The jet is located inside the nozzle body, and if it is not very sticky, then it can be easily turned out and replaced with a new one.

If it is not very stuck, then you can simply unscrew it with a tubular wrench and install a new one in its place.

Replacing the nozzle after dismantling the oven wall

If it is not possible to unscrew the nozzle, then you need to unfasten the left side panel, which is fixed with three vertically positioned screws. After dismantling the wall, we get access to the pipe, which is secured with a nut.

From this position, you can try to grab the jet with an open-end wrench and try to unscrew it. If here it is not possible to cope with the removal of the nozzle, then you need to unscrew the nut, unscrew the two screws and separate the body with the nozzle from the oven wall.

Nozzle compartment

After releasing the nozzle body from the oven wall, you can process the threaded connection and easily unscrew the nozzle

Now the stuck jet can be removed from any convenient position. It is best to treat the threaded connection with some universal agent (for example, VD-40), leave it for a few minutes and only then turn the jet out.

It remains to install a new jet in the nozzle and carry out the work on fixing the body to the oven wall and assembly in the reverse order.
