Advantages and disadvantages of liquid wallpaper
Liquid wallpaper has its pros and cons. It is advisable to study reviews of this material before buying in order to avoid disappointment in the future.
disadvantages
- The material is afraid of water. Liquid wallpaper in the kitchen has quite negative reviews. The same as in the bathroom. Water in the form of steam or drops, falling on them, is instantly absorbed inside. The material swells and any touch immediately deforms the surface.
In some cases, they can be varnished on top. But there will be no guarantee. Their porous structure will take an incredible amount of varnish. And the whole soft structure, and the silk shade, will be hidden under a layer of film. With a strong desire to use such a coating in the kitchen, it is recommended on the side that is far from the working area.
- Price. High-quality liquid wallpaper surpasses the price of the same vinyl or paper.
- The consumption indicated on the packaging is suitable for spreading on a perfectly flat surface. If, for example, you have a butt joint on the ceiling, then you will have to use more material to level the differences.
- The preparation time for work is from 8 hours. Modern types of glue allow you to start applying much faster.
Dignity
- One of the main positive qualities is environmental friendliness and hypoallergenicity. The composition of the material is completely harmless, so this material is now popular in children's rooms in Moscow and throughout Russia.
- They also do not build up static electricity.
- They hide surface imperfections quite well (up to 3 mm). Therefore, it is easy to prepare the coating before application.
- The material is seamless and assumes a solid canvas. And even in the most inaccessible places there will be no flaws.
- They can be applied by one person both on the walls and on the ceiling. Even if you have never tried yourself in this area before, there will be no problems. The main thing is a comfortable trowel, a firm hand and the material will lie perfectly and evenly.
- They are easy to partially repair - soak the required area with water from a spray bottle, remove it with a spatula and apply new ones.
- They are always warm to the touch and are suitable for unheated rooms.
- They have sound insulating properties.
- Preparation for applying liquid wallpaper is much more convenient than conventional ones. No need to measure rolls and apply glue over the entire surface. A trowel and a bucket are enough.
Features of wall decoration with liquid wallpaper
- Chalk and liquid wallpaper are incompatible things. They cannot be applied to chalk and lime. This is especially true for white. Even if you prime the wall with a waterproofing mixture, there is no guarantee that the walls or ceiling will not be covered with yellow streaks.
Therefore, no matter how tempting the prospect of applying them to the ceiling with the previous whitewash, consider whether you can completely remove the remaining chalk. Alternatively, you should consider another building material.
- Drywall and concrete work best. Smooth and uniform wall with the same moisture absorption capacity without unevenness is an ideal surface for such a finishing material.
- In all other cases, cover the entire surface with a layer of gypsum plaster. And then prime in several layers.

Design Tips
By purchasing liquid wallpaper, you will realize your design solutions to the fullest. This is a truly unique material that can be easily corrected.
Making a drawing out of them is a little more difficult than just sticking it on. But with the help of a stencil, it is quite possible to realize what was conceived. Of course, they are far from photo wallpaper, but this material is remarkable for its other properties.
Take a thick material (stiff paper, cardboard or thick film) and draw a drawing by hand. Now on the Internet there are a lot of all kinds of templates and you can print them in the absence of artistic talent. If the drawing is very large, divide the layout into fragments and transfer in parts.
Another variant:
- draw the template on the wall with a pencil,
- distribute the wallpaper,
- remove excess with a spatula,
- Apply the second side by sticking masking tape on the completed one.
- It would be nice to lay the material completely in one day. Otherwise, you will need to first soak the edges, and then, after leveling, continue working. Then your surface will be perfectly flat.
- If the liquid wallpaper of a homogeneous structure is made thicker, then you can try to create a stucco or a bas-relief from them.
- Pay attention to a small nuance when applying liquid wallpaper in the hallway. Most often, there is no natural light here. But when you first meet them in a store, you will see them brighter. After installation, you may be a little disappointed as the surfaces look different under artificial light.
Combination of materials
Liquid wallpaper goes well with other materials:
- Combination of different textures. If you use a bouclé material and plain cellulose wallpaper (of the same or contrasting shade) for the drawing, you will get a bright and original plane.
- You can only decorate one wall, and make the rest of the surfaces from other materials. It is so good to divide the room into zones.
- Try combining shades of the same color on one surface. This will expand the space. Flowers and abstractions look good this way.
