Average Time to Read It takes ~ 1 minute to read

A dish drainer is a must-have for any kitchen that makes life easier for the hostess. With this device, you do not need to wipe every plate in the old fashioned way, you just need to place all the dishes in the dryer. This device takes up little space, and we are so used to it that we do not even notice, but its absence is always noticeable. In order to choose a suitable device for drying dishes, you need to know what they are.

Dryer in the kitchen

Varieties

Kitchen dish dryers come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, and differ in the way they are installed. Some are completely invisible in the kitchen, while others become an integral part of the design. Before buying this appliance, you need to consider the size of the kitchen and the location of the sink.

By type of placement, dish dryers are:

  • Built-in;
  • Hinged;
  • Desktop;
  • Dryer-troflex.

Built-in dryers are placed in the upper or lower cabinet. This device takes up a lot of space, not everyone has a free cabinet to build a dryer there. Also, moisture can collect in the locker, but this is where the disadvantages end. The cupboard dryer protects kitchen utensils from dust and allows you to dry a lot of dishes at once. And in order for moisture not to spoil the hanging cabinet, it is necessary to make holes in it on the sides.

Built-in dryers are available in single and double decks. Bunk allows you to place any kind of tableware. Typically, the top shelf is for cups and glasses, and the bottom shelf is for plates.

Hanging dryers are a classic version of this device, which has been known for a long time. The wall fixture is suitable for a kitchen with little free space. It can be placed on any part of the wall or on the cabinet door. It comes with a built-in tray that can be easily removed. Also, the pallet can be installed separately under it. Hanging dish dryers can have cutlery compartments and cup hooks.

Tabletop dryers come in a variety of designs, so they perfectly complement your kitchen interior. They are made from different materials and come in different shapes. The most convenient are two-tier dryers with cutlery compartments and a removable tray.

There are also troflex dryers that are installed directly in the sink. They are made of stainless steel and take up very little space. Such a device does not attract attention, it is considered very convenient, but does not allow placing a lot of dishes.

Installation type and location

You can install this device on your own, the main thing is to determine the place and take measurements correctly.

The built-in dryer can be placed in the cabinet above the sink by removing its bottom shelf, then the water will immediately drain directly into the sink. If there is a dishwasher, it will be more convenient to place the device in the lower cabinet. This will save time and speed up drying. For the lower pedestals, corner dryers are also produced, which save space at the bottom for large dishes.

To install the device in the cabinet, you need to remove the doors, make holes on the sides, insert the fasteners that come with the kit. The fasteners must be hammered in with a hammer, and then the dryer must be attached and secured. After installation, you need to insert the pallet and reattach the doors.

Hanging dryers are usually equipped with special hooks, which makes it possible to attach to the rail. For ordinary wall models, two nails are enough, on which they are attached.

What are the sizes

The dimensions for drying dishes in the cupboard are dictated by the size standards of the cupboards themselves. Wall cupboard dryers are available in widths from 500 to 800 mm. The depth of the device can be 20-25 cm. For the lower cabinets, dryers with a size of 300-600 mm are manufactured. If you need a dish dryer of other sizes, it can be made to order. In Moscow stores, you can choose a photo of the device you like, and make the same, but in different sizes.

It is worth noting that the height from the pallet to the lower grate must be at least 6 cm, otherwise the splashes will again appear on the plate.

What material is it better to buy a dryer from?

The dish dryer can be made of the following materials:

  • Metal. Usually steel is used, which is protected with a chrome or enamel coating. These devices can be of different colors, and they are also protected from physical and chemical damage.

  • Stainless steel. A stainless steel dish drainer is considered the most practical and durable option. In addition, it does not require special care, but the cost of such a device is more expensive than models made of other materials.

  • Plastic. Plastic dryers attract attention with a variety of designs and colors. This is a great option if you want to complement the kitchen interior, but the plastic won't last long.

  • Wood. Wooden dish dryers are covered with a moisture-repellent material, so that they can serve for a long time.

It is necessary to choose a dryer depending on personal requirements, as well as the design and size of the kitchen. If the most important thing for you is practicality and durability, then opt for a stainless steel device.
