How to choose a home fan

Can there be problems with how to choose a fan? A simple thing - a motor, an impeller, a support. Enabled - works, what else? And here not. With a thoughtful approach, you will be surprised to find that in fact the choice of fan varieties is great, and you need to do it wisely. Even if it is only about household fans for home.

Why not air conditioning?

First, the fan is always cheaper.

Secondly, even stationary models are mounted much easier than air conditioners. If the house is too hot for a short time, there is no reason to purchase an expensive air conditioner. It is much easier to get a fan out of the closet or a pantry, and to clean it off the end of a hot period.

Thirdly, the two functions have different functions. The air conditioner maintains the set temperature, and the fan simply creates air movement in a certain direction. Although the heaters are capable of heating the air, but this separately.

The fan does not dry the air. Most models are mobile and can easily be moved within the house.

Types of household fans

Household devices can be:

  • floor;
  • desktop;
  • wall;
  • ceiling;
  • channel.

By design, these devices also differ. In everyday life, axial and tangential devices are usually used.

There are varieties in the manner of fastening, in terms of the degree of protection from harmful factors, but for household models this is not of great importance.

How to choose a fan for different rooms at home the most correct?

Living rooms

For these rooms most often use desktop, floor and ceiling fans. Floor models can be either axial or tangential. The remaining varieties are always axial. Floor tangential devices are made in the form of a column.

Column models can be equipped with additional functions:

  • built-in air humidifier;
  • heating element for heating air masses;
  • temperature sensor;
  • remote control unit and LCD screen.

The cost of such advanced fans is noticeably higher than conventional floor models. They look stylish and are quite safe in all respects.

The most powerful are the ceiling varieties. If conventional devices are equipped with engines with a power of 40-50 W, then to drive large blades of the ceiling model requires a more powerful electric motor - up to 250 W. The blades of the ceiling fan do not spin at high speed, but with their leisurely movement they create a constant pleasant movement of air, directed from the top down. Such a fan is especially appropriate above the bed in the bedroom, above the dining table in the living room. Often, such fans are installed on terraces and arbors near a country house. In this case, care must be taken to protect it from moisture.

Floor axial models are the most popular product in the hot season. It is their household appliances stores that are sold in thousands. Floor fans have large blades, several modes of operation, a rotary device for blowing a larger area, a stable base. The height of the impeller can usually be slightly changed.

When choosing a floor fan, you must pay attention to the degree of protection of rotating parts, especially if you have children and pets at home. The protective mesh casing must cover the blades on both sides.

The floor fan can be equipped with a remote control unit, which is very convenient.

Desktop models are the least powerful. But they have undeniable advantages:

  • low price;
  • mobility;
  • Possibility to create local blowing of small or high power.

When choosing, pay attention to the power, the size of the blades, the number of operating modes, the reliability of protection of the rotating parts of the device.

The manufacturer also has some significance. Well-known firms produce more reliable models that are significantly more expensive. Of course, cheap Chinese devices are not so reliable and can break down faster. But their low cost makes this circumstance uncritical: an inexpensive fan can be thrown away, and instead of it you can buy a brand new home.

Separately should be considered axial fan heaters, which can be both desktop and floor. Their design, even in low-cost options, suggests the possibility of turning on the device without heating, that is, to use it as a conventional fan. At the same time, the presence of built-in heating elements allows, if necessary, to rapidly increase the air temperature in small rooms. Some models have a built-in air humidifier, a temperature sensor and many modes of operation. It is possible to use such a fan at low revolutions of the impeller with or without heating, or to arrange intensive blasting with cold or hot air.

When choosing fan heaters, special attention should be paid to the quality of the housing materials. Plastic parts must be heat-resistant, so that when heated from them, no harmful substances are released into the air.

Bezlopastnye fans

This technical innovation quickly conquers the market, despite the rather high cost of devices. The bezlopastnoy fan looks completely unusual: in it at first glance there is nothing that could would provide such a powerful flow of air: only an empty ring or oval, from which a strong wind.

In fact, all moving parts are simply hidden by the body. A small but powerful turbine and an air intake system are installed in the base. The ring has a certain aerodynamic shape with narrow slots. The air pumped by the turbine passes through the slits, carrying with it air masses. Due to this, a zone of rarefied air is created on the opposite side of the ring, and on the front side you get a strong airflow.

Bezlopastnye fans are completely safe even for children. They are also produced with heaters that heat the air. But the cost of bezlopastnyh models is almost comparable to the price of air conditioning.

Fan for kitchen

If the function of the fan in the living rooms is to create air circulation, then the task in the bathroom, toilet and kitchen is completely different. In these rooms, it is often necessary to create a hood to remove air saturated with moisture, unpleasant odors, etc. In the kitchen, this problem is partly solved by installing the hood over the stove. But this device does not replace conventional ventilation.

By the way, the kitchen hood should not be connected to a normal vent, its duct must be taken out to the street. And in the vent hole is better to insert a channel fan, which creates an outflow of air from the kitchen. Such a device will help maintain a pleasant temperature in the culinary sanctuary and will not allow smells to spread throughout the apartment.

The power of the kitchen hood must be carefully calculated so as not to damage the comfort of your neighbors. If you install a device that is too powerful, then with a not very clean channel, the neighbors' vent hole will turn into a supply air duct. To them in the kitchen will go all your smells, mixed with dust from a clogged ventilation duct.

If you install an exhaust fan in the kitchen, you must ensure the flow of air. To do this, you can just have a slightly open window or balcony, but it is better to install a window supply fan.

Bathroom and toilet

In the bathroom it is necessary to install a waterproof device so that drops or condensation does not cause a short circuit. The most convenient are exhaust fans with built-in humidity and temperature control. Such a device will turn on when the humidity level reaches a certain critical level and automatically turns off when all humid air is removed.

The inclusion of the hood in the toilet can be logically done either manually or combined with the inclusion of light. You can also install motion sensors to automatically activate the exhaust ventilation, but this is not very rational.

If you install the exhaust fans in the bathroom and toilet, you need to take care of installing check that the air saturated with moisture and unpleasant odors from the bathroom does not fall into the kitchen. This is relevant in the case when all three rooms are connected by a common ventilation duct.

Additional selection options

  • Noise level. The quieter the device will work, the more comfortable it will be in the same room. Especially if the device is to work at night in the bedroom or in the children's room. The minimum noise level of the work is 21 dB. Models whose passport specifies a nominal noise level of more than 30 dB should not even be considered, since manufacturers have in mind indicators for the operating mode at minimum power. That is, in reality this unit will be very noisy. Channel fans operate more noisily than column and axial fans.
  • Stability. This applies mainly to floor models. It is especially important to check the device for stability, if your home runs children or four-legged pets.
  • Protection. All rotating parts must be securely protected by a grid so that the possibility of injury is completely excluded. The safest are bezlopastnye fans.

The device can be equipped with all sorts of improvements that are not necessary, but can be very enjoyable. It can be:

  • A timer that turns the device on and off at a specific time.
  • Already mentioned remote control, which allows you to change the modes of operation of the device, without getting up from a convenient place.
  • Backlight that can perform the functions of a night lamp. On ceiling models, a powerful lamp or even a chandelier is often installed.
  • Protection against overheating of the device, which is especially important for fan heaters.

When buying, be sure to inquire about the warranty period for the device, as well as the availability within your reach of service centers or warranty workshops.
