Conventional incandescent lamps have been superseded by energy-saving analogues for several years. Outdated lighting devices are losing ground. At the same time, sellers and manufacturers of energy-saving lamps are counting on reinforcement from the side of the laws, and quite justified. But at the same time, a large number of reasonable questions still arise among buyers. Are new lighting fixtures truly profitable? Does it make sense to buy them, because they cost more? Which options to choose, the assortment on sale is offered very large?

Is the savings real?
Eighty percent reduction in energy consumption when using energy-saving lamps is being talked about everywhere. The brightness of the light at the same time promise the usual, the same as when using conventional incandescent lamps.

Are new products really consuming eighty percent less energy, or are the savings much more modest?

The economics of energy-saving lamps are indicated primarily by manufacturers and sellers of electrical goods. You can take for example a modern lamp with a power of 5 W, and a conventional incandescent lamp with the same light intensity. The power of the latter should be 25 watts. Eighty percent savings can actually be achieved by using an 8 W energy-saving lamp instead of a 40 W incandescent lamp. All is correct.

Up to 800 kW / h can be saved if you replace ten energy-saving conventional lamps in your apartment. But it should be borne in mind that the calculation is carried out taking into account the daily use of each bulb for six hours. An ordinary lamp with a power of 60 watts consumes 120 kilowatts in one hour. A total of 22 kilowatts is consumed by an energy-saving lamp with a power of 11 watts. In one hour, thus, you can save 98 kilowatts with just one light bulb. Impressive figure.

The longevity of the lighting lamps deserves a separate discussion. Energy-saving, according to sellers and manufacturers, can serve ten times more. In practice, it is noted that the indicator of durability increases by about six times. In any case, energy-saving lamps have a longer life, and this is not about days or months, but about years of use.

The mode of use affects the period of operation. If we are talking about economical bulbs, do not use them together with a dimmer, and also often turn on and off the light. Lamps with the function of energy conservation simply do not light up if there is a voltage drop of more than ten percent in the network.
