What types of screws are best not to use

Among the diverse selection of fasteners, it is very difficult to choose the one that will best meet the existing conditions. A self-tapping screw is a fastener that includes a rod, a head and a sharp thread. They differ among themselves in their length, shape, material, thickness and purpose. It is the last difference that often leads many into a stupor.

Having no experience with fasteners, many owners do not pay much attention to the process of choosing it. As a result, when they try to screw a wood screw into a metal surface, they are disappointed, complaining about low-quality material.

In order to figure out which self-tapping screws are used for what, and which ones are not worth using, consider their main classification:

• Universal - it is used both outside and indoors, has good resistance to moisture, its length can reach 200mm, it is well screwed into most types of surfaces;

• For wood - is a modern analogue of the nail. The sharp tip copes well with the wooden coating without causing substantial damage to its structure;

• For a metal sheet - two types of tip are used - drill and sharp. A frequent thread pitch holds materials together perfectly. Properly selected length will allow you to tightly restrain elements over a long period of time;

• For drywall - it is distinguished by its black color, indicating the presence of corrosion resistance. Depending on what material the plasterboard sheet will be attached to, the type of tip and thread of the self-tapping screw is determined;

• For the window profile - so that the plastic does not scratch during operation, and the self-tapping screw does not slip, fasteners with a sharp drill are used. This allows you to save the window frame, and the self-tapping screw does not lead away during its twisting. The length and diameter is determined based on what will be screwed to the window;

• For corrugated board - well suited for fastening a metal profile or metal tile. The presence of a variety of polymer coatings allows you to choose a shade in accordance with the available color scheme. The rubber washers applied to such fasteners tighten the fixed materials as tightly as possible, keeping them from penetrating moisture into the holes;

• For concrete - a self-tapping screw used for concrete or brick is always subject to high loads. That is why it is made of galvanized steel, and is also equipped with a sharp tip.

Choosing the type of self-tapping screw, it is always important to take into account what materials it will twist into. An important role is played by its size, thread pitch, type of slot and other factors. Using an inappropriate view will not only poorly fix the elements, but also give trouble in the process.
