How to deal with fungus in the shower

You can clean visible fungal lesions with the simplest tools. Even bleach or soda solution is suitable for disinfecting surfaces. But the most important thing is to seal all the most dangerous plumbing areas. And for this you will definitely need silicone sealant. Approximately 300 ml of material should be sufficient. When it is prepared, you can begin the main work.

Where to start the fight against fungus

The initial task is to at least partially disassemble the shower stall in order to clean it as conveniently as possible. You will have to remove all moving elements and disconnect the other components, if possible. The areas affected by the fungus are cleaned with bleach. You can use a special antiseptic solution, which is sold in every hardware store.

Then you need to get rid of the old sealant. Unfortunately, even modern shower cabins use sealant, which is very easily affected by mold. Therefore, it must be cleaned out by looking literally at all joints and crevices. After removing the old sealant, the same areas must be treated with an antiseptic again. It remains to wait until the elements of the shower cabin are completely dry. You can use a hairdryer to speed up drying.

How to apply a new sealant

The easiest way to apply silicone sealant with a gun. If the owner immediately bought a package that has a dispenser, this tool will not be needed. The sealant is applied to all internal corners, to all cracks, to the joints of moving elements. If the process slots are too deep, the sealant must be additionally sealed with at least a metal spatula. Only when it is completely dry, the shower cabin is collected back.

It cannot be guaranteed that silicone sealant completely eliminates the risk of mold again. But the danger will at least decrease. Moreover, after such a comprehensive cleaning, the shower cabin will also look more spectacular.
