Many people who have dachas or private houses equip a cellar on their site for storing certain products from their own garden. But not everyone can do it right. There are very frequent cases when, due to low temperatures in the street, the contents of the cellar also froze and became unusable. This and other situations may arise due to improper installation of the ventilation system of your storage. We will analyze what the most common mistakes can lead to, and what type of ventilation is most suitable for the cellar.

What the errors lead to
In order for the products to be stored as long as possible, it is necessary to mount the correct ventilation, but if mistakes are made in the system, they will lead to the following:
- Poor ventilation can carry out insufficient air exchange and thereby, humidity and musty air will form, contributing to accelerated spoilage and rotting of vegetables;
- Strong ventilation can contribute to the formation of drafts, this leads to the rapid drying of vegetables.

What ventilation is suitable for the cellar
To create the correct air exchange in the cellar, ventilation equipment with two pipes is required. Thus, natural ventilation of the air in the storage will be created. Its purpose:
- One supply air duct, provides fresh air to the cellar;
- The second exhaust duct ensures the outflow of stagnant air masses.

Pipe installation is as follows:
- The exhaust pipe is mounted in one of the corners of the cellar, the lower hole of the pipe should be located under the ceiling. The upper edge is mounted half a meter above the roof visor. For colder regions of the country, it is recommended to warm the pipe to prevent the formation of frost on the inner walls;
- The supply pipe is mounted in the corner opposite to the exhaust pipe. The bottom hole should be 40-60 cm. from the cellar floor. The upper edge is 80 cm. above ground level, be sure to install a protective fine mesh on it to prevent any pests and rodents from getting into the pipe.

In winter, it is necessary to install valves on the pipes to regulate the flow of air, thereby preventing the cellar from freezing.
