Even the highest quality pipes cannot guarantee that they will not leak over time. Most often, this problem applies to the sewer system. This is due to the fact that its wear resistance is higher, and the service life is longer.
It is difficult to say what is worse in a sewer leak: the likelihood of flooding by neighbors or a fetid odor that will certainly spread throughout the room. In any case, this problem must be solved, and as soon as possible. However, before moving on to methods for eliminating a leak in the sewer system, you need to learn about the factors contributing to it.
The main causes of leakage
Expiration
As you know, everything has its own expiration date, the sewer system is an exception. Pipes, rubber seals, corner joints, sealant - all this sooner or later fails due to old age. To prevent this from happening, all of the above parts of the pipeline must be periodically replaced.

Errors during installation
The most common cause of leaking sewers are errors during installation. Improper installation of pipes or connecting joints will inevitably lead to a violation of the tightness, which in turn will cause leakage.

No joint sealing
Sometimes homeowners categorically refuse to contact professionals and install sewer pipes on their own. Often during installation, they forget about one small, but incredibly important detail - sealing joints. By sticking one pipe into another, they believe that the job is done, but when neighbors come to “visit” from the bottom, where it drips from the ceiling or there is an unpleasant smell in the apartment, remember this already late.

Defective materials
Another cause of leakage, which is almost impossible to track in advance, is a defect in the materials. Torn threads and cracks in pipes are the most common factory defects, which, unfortunately, are very difficult to identify by eye.

Mechanical damage
Closes the list of reasons for leaking sewage mechanical damage to the walls. Such defects, as a rule, are the result of inaccurate installation and "rough" repair.

Ways to eliminate a sewer leak
Now that the causes of the leak have become more or less clear, we can begin to eliminate it. There are two main ways:
Mechanical - it involves the installation of a rubber patch, clamp or sleeve.
Chemical - in this case, various sealants, epoxy putties and other cold-type compounds are used.
Knowing where to expect trouble and how to deal with it, you can be sure of the safety of your and your neighbor’s apartment.
