Arrangement of a balcony: 10 tips from the designer

Often, when planning to make repairs, no one thinks about the balcony. In the conditions of our small-sized apartments and in the vast majority of miniature balconies, few people think of creating something original and functional from it. Most often, the balcony acts as a repository of trash, a sort of warehouse where large unnecessary things are stored in the apartment. Someone is afraid of Russian frosts, and someone is embarrassed by the proximity of neighbors. But there are several original solutions that will help make the balcony beautiful and functional, regardless of its size and at any time of the year. Let's consider some of them:

1. Linen issue - to save space, the floor dryer can be replaced with pull-out or wall-mounted dryers;

2. Outdoor folding furniture - since the main design criterion for small balconies is space saving, folding furniture is just a godsend, it is suitable even for a narrow balcony;

3. Outdoor flooring - it is quite difficult for owners of unglazed balconies to choose a durable finishing material. In this case, you should pay attention to the terrace board, which can be decorated not only the floor of your balcony, but also the walls.

The floor from the terrace board is very practical in the winter season, this material has an anti-slip effect even when ice forms on it;

4. Hammock is another “life hack” that allows you to make the balcony all-weather. In order to have time to enjoy rare sunny days in the summer, and in winter not to worry about spoiled furniture standing on the balcony, one simple device is enough - a hammock;

5. Multifunctional furniture - cabinets and benches with built-in wardrobes will help to hide unsightly things that you do not want to throw out. The same terrace board is suitable for their decoration;

6. Solar lamps - pendant lamps with solar batteries manage to recharge even in conditions short daylight hours and are also practical to use on unglazed balconies, thanks to its mobility. With a beautifully selected or made by hand-made lampshade, the lamp will fit perfectly into the atmosphere of an open balcony;

7. Multifunctional table - there are outdoor tables that combine several devices, such as a table and a clothes dryer with a folding tabletop. Of course, you have to look for it or make it yourself, but it's worth it;

8. Grass substitute - or artificial grass. An excellent substitute for a decorative rug! It is easy to cut, fit and fasten, moisture resistant, it is very nice to step on it. Another advantage is that the grass is quite affordable in price;

9. Flowers in large pots and flower pots - of course, no serious practical significance it doesn’t carry a balcony, and not all flowers will endure a harsh winter, but you have a unique feeling of comfort. For winter, the cache-pot can be removed.

When equipping a balcony, it is enough to show a little ingenuity, and from an ordinary pantry it will be transformed into a functional room not only for storing things, but also for relaxing!
