Drying oil is a well-known product based on natural oils. Depending on the type, flaxseed, sunflower and soya can be used. Drying oil is part of oil paints, serves as a protective impregnation for wood. If you want to paint a new wooden surface, it is best to first cover it with varnish in several layers. So the tree will take less paint or varnish.
Despite the fact that today there are many modern analogues of drying oil, this proven tool still has its admirers. On the construction market, drying oil is available in three versions:
- Natural - in its composition vegetable linseed oil (sometimes sunflower oil) and desiccant (a chemical reaction catalyst). This type of drying oil is unprofitable to use for street work, since its price is high. More often it is bred with thick paints or impregnated with wooden floors, walls, ceilings in rooms.
- Oksol - most often in shops it is such a drying oil that is sold. It also consists of sunflower or linseed oil, solvent and desiccant. At a price it is cheaper than natural, and the protective properties are almost the same. But without paint or varnish on top, they will often have to be updated.
Flax-based oxol will be the best. It forms a solid and durable protective film, for a long time keeps the tree from darkening.
Cheap oxide is a sunflower. It is universal, it is used both for internal and external works. But on the street the tree is still better to paint or varnish, otherwise it will rot.
- Compositional - such drying oil is the cheapest, it is produced not according to GOST, but according to TU (technical conditions). Instead of natural resins, the composition may include oil-polymer, chemical components and oil refining products. It is dangerous to use composite drying oil for the treatment of internal walls: they contain substances that are harmful to health and smell unpleasant for years.
Composite drying oil with a precipitate of oils (fus) will never dry out at all. It can not be painted over even with paint.
Drying oil based on osprey either does not dry out or starts to crumble. For the price it is the cheapest, but it looks light and liquid.
How to choose drying oil:
- You can distinguish a quality product from a fake by evaluating the transparency of the substance. A good drying oil is dark brown, and light and transparent, most likely compositional. But it is often a fake;
- Basic information about the manufacturer and product composition can be found on the label. It should contain the production address, composition, conditions of use;
- If in doubt, it is better to ask for a certificate. On composite drying oil it is issued hygienic, and on natural - a certificate of conformity;
- A good drying oil is homogeneous in composition, does not contain mechanical impurities and sediment, and does not have a pungent odor.
