What is cling film: composition

There are two types of material. The first (and most commonly used) is polyvinyl chloride. Possesses good insulation properties, prevents food oxidation and in every possible way prolongs the life of ready-made meals.

At the same time, vinyl chloride is found in its composition, which experts call a carcinogen. Phthalates are additionally present. When exposed to high temperature, oil or fat, they partially break down and enter the human body.

Their negative impact is directed on the endocrine life support system. Problems will be noticeable in the reproductive system and in violation of metabolic processes. Experts do not recommend using this type of film all the time in your own kitchen.

A more modern version is based on polyethylene. It is not inferior in properties, but it is environmentally friendly. The chemical composition is stable and does not react to contact with fats, oils and other products.

Danger of using in the oven

The temperature regime that the cling film can withstand varies from 60 to 100 degrees. Thus, it is categorically impossible to use it in an ordinary oven. The food will simply burn in such a wrapper.

Several manufacturers are making microwave-safe material. Be sure to inspect the packaging and label, there should be a heating authorization badge. However, doctors and chemists still do not recommend its use when heating food.

Alternative options

If you want to cook a delicious baked dish in the oven, but the list of available materials is limited, study how you can replace polyethylene:
