We answer the question: why are the sponges for dishes multicolored

Few of us when buying dishwashing sponges asked ourselves why they are made in different colors. Usually this is perceived by a person as commonplace - they say, for beauty and brightness. However, this is not at all the case. It turns out that aesthetic pleasure has nothing to do with it, and each color of the working part means something.

Why are dishwashing sponges different shades?

So, let's figure out what a sponge is made of. Often this is a sponge made of foam rubber and a thin layer of hard material. The latter is also called Scotch Bright. Usually we use it to remove complex dirt from dishes, remnants of burnt food, adhered fat and other "delights" after cooking a dish.

Scotch tape is a piece of abrasive material and is quite tough. Therefore, it is rarely used when washing dishes made of delicate materials and God forbid to wash a non-stick frying pan with it. Since it can be of different stiffness, thickness and density, it is specially marked with a certain color.

Usually, when buying such primitive products as sponges, we think first of all about other parameters of choice: size, porosity of foam rubber and, of course, its quality. Very few people pay attention to the color of scotch-bright. Meanwhile, this indicator is able to "tell" you what hardness the layer has, and what exactly can be cleaned with it.

Green

The toughest type. It easily wipes off fat, carbon deposits, food residues, dried porridge (and - oh, a miracle! - even buckwheat), and much more. But with such a sponge, you should be extremely careful: it can also clean the enamel coating, if we talk specifically about the layer. Well, if the chip does not work out, then the scratches will probably appear. For this reason, it is undesirable to use such an abrasive for delicate dishes.

Brown and red

Medium hardness type. As a rule, it is intended for washing dishes that do not contain carbon deposits and complex contaminants.

Yellow

The softest sponge. It is suitable for dishes made of delicate materials such as glass, porcelain, crystal. However, in this case, there is a caveat. Whatever one may say, but it is better to wash such capricious dishes simply with foam rubber, without resorting to the help of scotch-bright.

Black

Maximum density and hardness of the abrasive. You cannot definitely wash such a Teflon pan, otherwise you will have to run to the store for new dishes. These sponge options are extremely rare and are designed to remove really tough and old stains. Even if you clean something very durable with it, with excessive efforts, black scotch tape can leave scratches on the surfaces.

It is noteworthy, but many housewives do not use black abrasive for dishes at all. They use it in more complex cases. For example, for cleaning limescale from a sink or for cleaning imperfections on various surfaces.

Of course, you can appreciate this discovery by checking the sponges that you have at home and feeling the adhesive tape. But sometimes you can find that the sponges are colored, but the abrasive layer is the same for everyone. But this is already the responsibility of the manufacturer. And in this case, most likely, the products are painted really for beauty, and not in terms of practicality.
