A faceless kitchen set will come to life if you add panels to its facades. Decorative wall panels can be made from natural materials, as well as from artificial ones. Both are acceptable for genres known as:

  • still life,
  • landscape,
  • portrait,
  • animal world.

In terms of artistic form, contour graphic drawings are distinguished, tonal, pictorial, relief and high-relief (semi-volume).

Picturesque panels in the kitchen

Decor for different styles (provence, modern, high-tech)

Panel in the loft style

In the loft style, collections of coffee grinders, beer cans, steel lids, and other brightly colored urban rubbish are appropriate. For the integrity of the collection, they are whitewashed with aerosols and silver.

Art Nouveau is prone to bright colors among black. Curved mosaics, beads, velvet buttons, small golden details are especially suitable. Example: a mosaic from a disassembled alarm clock.

Hi-tech is necessarily metal, imitation of metal is possible. A mysterious spark on surfaces is a reminder of the boundless space.

Folk style panels

Folk without garlic, pepper, onion garlands is impossible to imagine. And also stocks of pots under rags entwined with cords. Shelves made of deliberately cracked wood - piled high, full.

Provence is the same folk, but with a protrusion of overseas riches: pepper, saffron, poppy, nutmeg. The gifts of India are spread out in banks, smell, provoking culinary masterpieces. The shape of the glass containers is especially important.

The above is nothing more than motifs of still lifes within frames, without them, on cutting boards, wood cuts, inside a grid of flattened shelves, where each section is a bins.

Master class: making panels for the kitchen with your own hands (photo)

We start with a small master class.

Panel making

You will need:

  • dried gifts of nature, remains of blanks,
  • corrugated cardboard,
  • metal ruler,
  • dry remnant,
  • PVA glue,
  • burlap or linen canvas,
  • plywood board.

Let's start creating a plaque. Pour orange peels, grains, spikelets, dry peppers, nutshells on the table - everything that has been prudently preserved and dried. We give the cardboard under the ruler the shape of a square.

Panel dragonflyMaking up a dragonfly. The body is a chain of beans, the wings are made of lavrushka, the eyes are beads and the legs are made of dill stalks. We paste over a square of cardboard with a matting, sketch out the composition with strokes with dry soap. Squeeze out the glue with thick veins. We press the laid out mosaic with books. Dries out for a day.

After 5-10 such exercises, a sense of the material comes, the idea of a large composition matures. But even the first experiments should not be thrown away. Squares with moths, flowers, birds are collected as a sectional panel for the wall.

Wall mural picture of eggshell

Eggshell panelThe tradition goes back to the Middle Ages in Japan. Eggs of quails, storks, and, of course, chickens were used. We have a surplus of this. The shells (white and beige are collected separately) are washed through a colander and dried.

The crushed shell is used as a background. Forming elements of the image are laid out in large plates. The motif "Fuji" and "peonies" are also from the land of the rising sun. In the first case, the mountain under the cloud is created on the glued drawing using the “sprinkling” method. In the second case, you need to put a photo of a flower in front of you and, starting from the center, lay small pieces, selecting, as in a mosaic, the coincidence of the contours, expanding the flower to the desired size.

Applying glue to the eggshellAll you need is tweezers, PVA glue, and a glue brush. With a stick, an awl, the end of the brush, the shells are moved along the not yet dried glue. The pieces are gently pressed with a dry coarse cloth.

The cellular structure of the image is akin to a cobblestone on an old street, where a bridge, mountains, a distant castle, bushy thickets, thunderclouds...

Alternating bedding and laying with contour selection, they create mosaics that decorate the home interior. Glitter from baguette frames, tinted with black only, colored, lacquered with acrylic for durability, impregnated with only one construction primer, in silver decoupage - they delight without the purchase of expensive materials. This is how you can beautifully decorate the coffee table top. The final cycle is filling with acrylic varnish.

Decorative panel made of prints of fruits and vegetables

The work of the English craftswoman Rachel Dayne is magic. Since 2012, her works have been purchased by flower shops. It began with the fact that she wanted to get prints of freshly picked flowers on rolled clay.

Panel made of prints of vegetables on clay

Clay rollingIn a frame with a lined fiberboard bottom, Rachel placed a rolled clay pancake. She laid down raw wildflowers, spread out the inflorescences. The laid was covered with soapy water. Then she cut the old ball, poured a third of water into the resulting container, poured gypsum, stirring quickly. The mass was poured into a box on clay.

Clay imprintThe removed gypsum ingot turned out to be beautiful, but the artist decided to turn it back to the original one, i.e. get relief. Again soaping, pouring. I came up with the idea of toning the reliefs, applied the tone with liquid paint, then slightly rubbed the paint layer wet (decoupage).

It is easier to work with apple slices, potato stamps on a layer of flour and salt mixed in a 3: 1 ratio. Such plaques, clogged with stamps, dry for a week, and then retain their shape without baking.

It is even easier when using acrylic paint on paper. Pressed dill inflorescences are blown from a can, a scattering of coins - a background is obtained. From above, sinewy leaves and poppy cups are imprinted. Acrylic glitters elegantly. Under glass, in a mat - on the wall!

Images and inscriptions on the wall with threads (nails + threads)

You need a solid wooden or plywood board, shoe (better - furniture bronze) nails, multi-colored threads.

Panel made of threads and nails

We make the first plaque as simple as possible:

  • We beat the square around the perimeter, stepping back 2 cm from the edge. We drive in not completely, with one blow, but so that the carnation does not stagger.
  • We tie the thread around the corner nail, pull it to the opposite one diagonally, and so on in a circle. A stereometric star is formed in the center.

Panel from the thread of the starSailboats, northern lights, flashes of new stars are good in this technique - especially when the threads are multi-colored, embroidery.

Without a clear order, the motives are trees, leaves, inscriptions with greetings.

For inscriptions, it is appropriate to make a stencil, where each letter is verified. Then the piece of paper is simply pierced through, then ripped off.

Pallet decorations

Panels made of palletsWe rebuilt the dacha, but the pallets remained? You can't throw it away: they are ready-made shelves for cans!

Where there is a rough tree, there are ideas for the Provence kitchen. You can blast with orange, green, blue. Impregnating compounds are available and varied.

Panels made of palletsWe create openwork “beards” from the dried planks. They, like the edges of napkins, hang perpendicular to the surfaces.

The board is clamped in a vice. According to the drawing outlined in pencil, an ornate contour is cut with a hammer on the chisel. Holes are possible - with them the wooden lace is more airy.

Composition from dishes

Panel from broken dishesNow it's time to load the shelves. In the pantry, at the dacha, there will always be saucers that are out of use. We start to blend:

"Globe", "Moment" glues better to glass. We fix the crumpled “ribbed” foil, fix the baking paper, add dry twigs, tint in different colors. It turns out a sacred tree.

Lay out the gilded anise stars, the bases of the cones, the juniper legs, adding satin bows and beads. You will get a New Year's souvenir.

Combination of dry berries and spices

Panel from berriesIn the contour mosaics of cereals, seeds, maple impellers, birds, sunrises, landscapes, and cityscapes are expressive. The board is marked, if necessary, the background color is changed with paints. The same cereal can be placed on an area with a base of different colors, that is, use the gaps in the general range.

The easiest way:

  • the area is coated with glue,
  • showered with grains,
  • the excess is shaken off after drying.
Panel from berries

In the picture "Vase with sweets" the table and the bowl are loose. Chestnuts, nutshells, seeds, saffron tubes are attached with a hot glue gun. It costs nothing at all, but is needed for creativity. In addition, sets of gold, black, transparent, mother-of-pearl tabs are sold. You can paint stained-glass windows with this.

Panel of wine corks

Panel of wine corksThe cork can be easily cut with a utility knife. Transverse cuts form circles, longitudinal cuts - straws and "chips" for petals, leaves, feathers of the future image. We crumble the remains: a good sprinkling of the background.

We frame the kitchen plaque with a cork:

  1. We cut several plugs with a knife;
  2. We put the plywood on the glue around the perimeter, alternating 2 pieces. horizontally, 2 - vertically;
  3. Another way: alternating two rows for brickwork.

Coffee paintings

Picture of coffee beansWe considered in more detail in this article. A small amount of coffee beans can be sacrificed for flavor in the kitchen. Greenish, yellow, not fried next to chocolate - a whole palette. In addition, the background is sprinkled with ground, spikelets, dried flowers are added.

Ground coffee picturesGlue a piece of burlap on the plywood with a stretch. You can chintz by dipping it completely into liquid PVA. We outline the contours of the cup, saucer, the inscription “Coffe”. Sprinkle the contours over thick glue, covering the surroundings with a paper stencil. We use buttons for fastening. The rest of the mosaic elements are fixed with nitrocellulose glue or a thermal gun.

Decoupage technique

Panel decoupageInitially, decoupage meant sticking postcards, pieces of wallpaper, beautiful fabrics on boxes, saucers, furniture, followed by varnishing and painting, masking the joints. The development of photography has made adjustments: they use a transparent image on an adhesive film.

Volumetric decoupage allows a combination of quilling, planar backgrounds, prototyping, applications, mosaic layouts.

Volumetric decoupageToday, the most popular styles in decoupage are Provence, Ethnic, Victorian, Shabby Chic and Simple City. This is largely due to modern trends in interior design towards the avant-garde.

Decoupage effects:

  • Craquelure - special compounds create cracks in aged things,
  • Patination - taken from bronze, when the oxide is scraped off, but remains in deep places.
  • Potal - thin foil, mica plates create a gilding effect.
  • Toning - is created with translucent paints.
