The house is brick built, the budget is limited. During operation, the wooden floor began not only to creak underfoot, but also to sag. The renovation was to be overhauled, only one preparatory stage took a whole week, although initially one day was allotted for this.
Dismantling the top layer of the flooring did not bode well. But after removing the linoleum and a thin sheet of fiberboard, badly damaged due to the fact that there were no fixed floorboards under it, but only a rough flooring made of boards of different thicknesses. All this will have to be removed completely.
It turned out that on top of a layer of construction waste and earth, which in the 50s of the last century were often used instead of insulation and sound insulation, glass wool was laid.
What a surprise! This type of mineral wool is strictly prohibited for indoor use, it is intended for insulation of the street part of communications. I had to wear a respirator, thick rubber gloves and polycarbonate goggles.
In the niche behind the sink, another unpleasant gift was waiting for us, left by the former owners of the apartment - a hole from a dismantled cast-iron riser, leading into the bottomless darkness of the basement. Initially, the plans did not include cleaning the floor to the concrete bulkhead. But now the dismantling of the screed and its restoration have become an urgent need, which further reduced the budget for finishing the kitchen.
Remembering all the gods of construction with a kind word, we safely reached the cherished concrete slab. A steel sheet, 8 mm thick, was found in advance, and holes were drilled in it. It is difficult to say which was more difficult, drilling steel or concrete slab. In the end, the sheet was secured.
The base of the floor in a house that has leaked can only be called a plane with a big stretch. But we decided to insulate it without prior alignment, hoping that a semi-dry screed on top of the foam will give the desired result.
With the help of the building level, it remains to adjust the height of the screed at different walls, find an ordinary point and install multilayer beacons. Using the material at hand - cement mortar and pieces of drywall - turned out to be easier than putting the screws on the slides of the concrete mix. And the level on the improvised columns is convenient to install. No screwdrivers or hammers are needed for height alignment, you just need to press with your palm so that the excess solution comes out.
Having filled in expanded clay to the level of the penultimate plasterboard mark, it remains to fill in the dry screed with a thin layer of fast-setting cement mortar.
He grabbed for 12 hours. Of course, a wet screed would be much smoother, but there is simply no 2 weeks to wait for its high-quality solidification. This is not scary, the top finishing layer of concrete will be from a self-leveling cement mixture.
The lean mixture is diluted to the consistency of fat sour cream, it spreads by itself, which eliminates the need to take up the rule and level it. A few hours later, you can safely walk on it. But this stage must be postponed until the plaster layer is removed from the walls.
This is necessary in order for leveling the walls drywall does not lose precious square centimeters of space, otherwise the ordered set may simply not fit.
The kitchen is combined with a glazed balcony. The slopes will also have to be done anew, stripping of old plaster should be thorough, revealing the brickwork.
The installation of the metal profile must be started from the window. Between adjacent guides, a step of 60 cm.
Ventilation channel, false ceiling rails, hanging cupboard strips are fixed to the support elements of walls, drywall, even as high-quality as Finnish gypsum plasterboard, will not withstand the weight of empty lockers. This means that you need to install the crate so that the suspension strips and communication sleeves do not go beyond the perimeter of its outer edge.
Peculiarity kitchen combined with a loggia the fact that the heating radiator is moved to the wall opposite to the one with the sink and stove. When making a screen for a radiator, you will have to shift the horizontal lathing bar, and skip one vertical one altogether. This gives rise to the idea - to make a niche for a small TV on a swing arm. A false fireplace would also look good in it. But this is possible in a 6-meter kitchen, provided that the dining area - the dining table moves to the insulated loggia.
After fixing on the drywall guides, the moment comes to create ventilation hatches, which will come in handy when repairing equipment, shutting off the gas and water supply. Using a painting reinforcing mesh and plaster putty, it is necessary to align the seams of the joints between the sheets.
While the putty dries, there is time for the final leveling of the floor and laying the laminate. No floor insulation was planned. Ultimately, when the refrigerator, after installing all the furniture, could only be placed in the kitchen by cutting a niche in the wall, I had to insulate the floor of the loggia with an infrared film radiator and bring the dining room closer to the street table.
For normal operation of the refrigerator, there must be at least 20 cm between the wall and its back wall, this is how it cools naturally.
After installing furniture with facades that were ordered to match the refrigerator, the cooking area began to look monolithic. It is depressing that instead of glass apron temporarily had to do with wallpaper pasted across. The refrigerator from this line had to be moved, and a dishwasher will soon replace it.
If it were not for the loggia, then for the refrigerator it would be necessary to look for a place in the corridor, in the room, and even for additional equipment there was a place left.
