From which part you need to start making a bed - there is no difference. But there are 2 options for the procurement of material:

Step by step instructions for creating

A step-by-step instruction for making a bed from a profile pipe begins with the preparatory stage. To do this, strictly according to the drawing, the amount of required materials is determined: a profile pipe, furniture bolts. It is necessary to measure the length of all elements that are summed up. The total length of the required profile pipe will be obtained.

But since the design uses pipes of different sections, it is necessary to carry out measurements for each position separately. Thus, the exact quantity of each element will be known.

Usually, a bed needs a profile pipe with a section of 40x40 or 40x20 mm. It is used for the frame and supporting structures. Section 25x25 or 30x30 mm is used for intermediate elements that create strength and stability.

The most difficult thing in the manufacture of a rectangular structure from a metal profile is to connect all the elements at a right angle. Therefore, the work on assembling the bed frame from a profile pipe must be carried out on a flat surface.

If there is none, then under the corners of the structure, you need to lay linings or stands with a flat surface. It is better if they are located in the same horizontal plane. Therefore, each profile pipe laid on linings is set using a building level along the horizon.

Join these elements at an angle of 90º. For this, a building corner is used.

It is impossible to weld the connected pipes with a full seam. First, spot welding is carried out - on tacks. After that, the connection nodes are checked for compliance with the right angle. If everything is correct, then the connections of the profile pipes are welded on all sides with a full seam.

4 profile pipes 40x40 mm cut to size are placed in a rectangle. One connection is taken for tacks - the joint of 2 pipes. To do this, they are docked to each other at a right angle, which is checked with a square.

Consistently along the perimeter of the rectangle, the remaining elements are connected. Difficulty can arise at the last corner, which usually does not work out straight. Here you have to bend the structure, shifting it diagonally.

One tack is made so that the rectangle does not part. After you need to measure the diagonals of the figure. They must be the same. If not, then once again it will be necessary to carry out the displacement of the structure. It is necessary to ensure that the diagonals become the same length.

The next stage is the welding of all joints with a full seam. There is no need to hurry, because the quality of the entire bed depends on the quality of the seam.

It is not necessary to join profile pipes with a cut of 45º - it is not so easy. Especially welding. It is easier to connect the connection at a right angle - the end of one profile pipe to the wall of the second. The first should be long and located along the bed. The open end of the section will be closed by the sidewall, and it will not be visible.

To give strength and rigidity to the assembled structure, it is necessary to install cross bars from a profile pipe 25x25 m. They will also become the base on which the mattress will lie.

Although it is better to put a piece of plywood on top, and then a mattress. So the latter will remain in its original state. And the loads from the frame will be distributed evenly.

Bedsores in the form of grooves from the crossbars will not appear on the back of the mattress. So it will last a long time. Some people put metal mesh instead of plywood, which is also a good option. But plywood, chipboard or OSB is better, even used ones will do.

Welding work on the assembly of the bed frame

Welding work on assembling the bed frame from a profile pipe is completed. It is necessary to process the joints, remove the influxes and streaks of metal. First of all, they must be knocked down with a hammer. The remaining flaws are removed using a grinding wheel mounted on a drill or grinder.

Here the shape can be different, but the simplest is rectangular. The headboard consists of 2 support posts and 2 crossbars, the lower of the latter indicates the height of the bed. It is necessary to make sure that the frame is attached to the lower cross member of the sidewall.

To assemble the headboard, you must first select the height of the bed. Standard - 50 cm. But you can choose any size depending on your own fantasies and desires. The same goes for headboard height. Let it be half a meter high. This means that this parameter must be maintained from the lower ends of the uprights to the lower cross member.

On linings on the floor or ground, 4 elements are laid at right angles. As in the case of the frame, the entire structure should be located in the same horizontal plane. Each joint is checked for a 90º joint and tacked by spot welding. The sequence of operations performed is exactly the same as when assembling the bed frame.

If the entire structure corresponds to the laid down parameters, it is possible to weld the joined elements with a continuous seam. After that, metal deposits are cleaned.

The back side of the bed is made in the same way. It may be the same in size, or it may be smaller, lower in terms of the upper crossbar.

Both sidewalls can be filled with intermediate elements from a profile pipe. You can not fill it, and subsequently close it with other flat material: boards, plywood, etc. Finishing offers a huge selection of variations.

Bed

All parts of the bed from the profile pipe are ready. It is recommended to close the lower ends of the legs. For example, weld squares cut from sheet iron with a thickness of 2.5-3 mm. You can weld furniture wheels, making the bed mobile, mobile.

And 2 more assembly steps:

  1. Make holes for furniture bolts.
  2. Decorate the bed.

The first position is easy. To do this, depending on the width of the bed, make several through holes with a diameter of 12 mm in the profile pipes-crossbars: both on the frame and on the two sidewalls. In this case, the holes should be located exactly in the middle of the section width of the profile pipe. Quantity - at least 2, maximum - every 30-35 cm.

It is important here to accurately mark up so that the holes on the frame coincide with the holes on the sidewalls. Errors within 1-2 mm are permissible, therefore, a hole diameter of 12 mm is drilled for M10 bolts.

The last one is painting. Even a double bed made of a profile pipe for painting is a small object. Therefore, it is optimal to buy paint for metal in cans. 2-3 pieces will be enough.

If areas with rust appear on the profile pipe, then the latter must be disposed of:

  • sand;
  • treat with a water-based solvent.

Now each element of the bed must be painted on all sides. It is difficult to apply paint to the frame in the sense that it is wide and must be turned over so as not to stain or peel off the already applied paint. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful when turning, but it is better to call an assistant.

Bed assembly

First, a few words about furniture bolts, or rather, about their length. In the design of the bed, parts are joined that are made of a profile pipe with a section of 40x40 mm. Bolts should connect 2 such pipes. This means that they must pass through a double profile, the total thickness of which will be 80 mm. And since, in addition to the thickness, you also need to screw the nut onto the bolt and put a washer under it, the length of the fastener must be at least 90 cm.

During the operation of the bed, the fasteners loosen, causing it to loosen. The problem is solved simply - you need to tighten the washers until they stop. And it is better to do this periodically, without waiting for the backlash to appear. You can simplify the situation - install Grover's washers under the nuts. To do this, you will have to increase the length of the bolts.

Now about assembling the bed. First, a frame is assembled from one of the sidewalls. The first is put on its side or, as the masters say, napopa. The sidewall is attached to it. It is important here that the mounting holes on the frame line up with the holes on the sidewall.

It is into them that the bolts are inserted with hats from the front side. Washers and nuts should remain under the bed. They are screwed onto the bolts, but not much, they do not need to be screwed to the end with a clamp. There should be a backlash that will help when connecting the second sidewall. It is attached to the frame in the same way as the first.

But now you can tighten the bolts with effort so that the parts of the structure do not move relative to each other. On this, the assembly of the bed from the profile pipe can be considered complete. It remains only to lay plywood, a mattress on top, fill the bed and use it for its intended purpose.

In almost exactly the same way, a one-piece bed is made, it is also non-separable. Furniture bolts are not used in its manufacture, which means that there is no need to drill holes for them. All parts of the bed are simply welded together by electric welding. That is why painting is carried out as the last stage.

For those who cannot work with electric welding, there is an option to assemble a bed from a profile pipe without it. All connections will need to be made using metal perforated corners or other shaped connecting elements and bolts. This technology is often used in the assembly of light metal structures. The technology is not easy. Here you need to drill a lot of holes, accurately measuring them on the connected elements. It is not so easy, besides, there is always the possibility of misalignment of holes, which leads to difficulties.
