In any country house or dacha there is a secluded place where the owners fry kebabs or bake vegetables on the coals, treating guests to freshly harvested crops from the beds. You can do all this on a steel or folding box, buy an inexpensive Chinese hearth, but it's best to build a brazier out of bricks. This will not only add credibility to the hosts in the eyes of the guests, but also make cooking meat safer and more convenient.

Schemes, drawings of simple brick barbecues and how to make them yourself

There are many designs of barbecues and stoves. Moreover, every amateur believes that he must develop his own brazier project. Sometimes homemade products, even without drawings, turn out to be successful. But they are huge, expensive, construction costs are considerable, plus they are designed for a decent amount of firewood.

Therefore, before you make the first version of the barbecue with your own hands, you need to think carefully about what exactly is needed and important for a brick building. As practice shows, the most successful are simple and small ovens of a universal type.

What are the options:

  1. Make a simple stationary grill.
  2. A small brazier with a hood or chimney, if the stove is planned to be placed somewhere inside the summer kitchen or in the gazebo.
  3. Build a brazier with a sink for washing hands and a chimney.

As a rule, nothing else is needed to cook meat and vegetables. All other elements, a cauldron, a grill, a pizza oven, this is already too much. Such projects are chosen mainly for the summer kitchen and the open terrace of a small cafe for permanent use. In this case, the costs will be justified.

Simple brick brazier

This option can be built with your own hands in just a few hours, even without preparation. The base for the brazier can be laid out from an old oven, burnt brick or ordinary sand-cement, paving, clinker, in general, any tile 50 mm thick and 300x300 mm in size. It makes no sense to make a concrete foundation.

Simple brick brazier

In addition to 70-80 bricks, in this case, full-bodied facing, made by pressing, you will need a cast-iron door with a frame for the ash pan and grates. You can use cast iron from an old disassembled furnace. For the barbecue you need 2 tiles measuring 300x252 mm.

The box is made of brick masonry with bandaging of rows. Only 5 rows. The brick is laid on a cement-lime mortar. After laying out the base and the second row, a steel partition plate is laid on the brick to form the ash pan space. There is no firebox, as such, at the brazier, as well as hoods (chimney). Therefore, if guests are late, then the coals in the brazier can be covered with a metal sheet, leaving only a small gap on the side of the extreme brick. The coals will not burn out, but will smolder.

Despite the unsightly appearance, the simplest brick barbecues are very popular due to the simplified assembly.

But such a hearth has an obvious drawback. In order to manage the process of cooking kebabs or barbecues, you need to constantly sit nearby on a low bench. Or stand, bent over in three deaths. Therefore, most barbecue projects involve installing a hot zone with coals to a height of at least 70-90 cm. Such a scheme is considered more comfortable.

A simple brazier from a ready-made kit

Many manufacturing companies that produce equipment for the garden and cottages have long established the production of ready-made kits for barbecue or barbecue. The owner only needs to fold the brick with his own hands according to the step-by-step instructions, and all other accessories are already included in the set of barbecue parts.

The traditional design of an open brazier of a simple form involves laying out at least two, or even three additional rows with ledges. They support a grate, a steel box or a brazier with coals.

A simple brazier from a ready-made kit

If you build a brazier based on a ready-made kit, then according to the instructions, it is no longer necessary to lay out the protrusions, they are replaced by steel hook-loops, which are laid in the masonry seam during the construction of walls.

First of all, you need to lay out a paper template on the site, it is included in the kit. At the same time, you can try on the size of the charcoal tray.

According to the template, you can transfer to the concrete (slab) the dimensions of the base of the future barbecue. It is recommended to use hollow lightweight bricks, but in fact you can build from any.

For laying bricks, a ready-made cement-clay mortar with the addition of a plasticizer is used; it can be replaced with liquid soap.

Support hooks are laid out in a seam in pairs, on opposite walls. This is recommended to be done on the 3rd third row of bricks, as well as on 7 and 9.

Due to the fact that the brick is hollow, and the mortar is laid twice or three times more than usual, the strength of the walls of the brazier is great. The only requirement is that after laying out the bricks, each row must be checked with a building level and tamped with a trowel so that the brazier turns out to be even and beautiful.

Upon completion of laying the brick, you need to embroider the outer seams so that the brazier looks beautiful. Some craftsmen recommend opening the building with varnish (to make it easier to clean from smoke), but in practice, almost no one does this. Although the varnish, in addition to decorative functions, also performs protective functions - it closes the pores and prevents moisture from penetrating inside the walls of the brazier.

Simple brazier with adjustable hood

Many craftsmen, when planning a barbecue, grill, barbecue, completely forget that they somehow need to deal with smoke. For some reason, it is believed that if the barbecue is on the street, then a small canopy over the brazier will be enough so that rain and wind do not interfere. But practice shows that the hood is needed even for the simplest brazier, if the body height is more than one meter.

The hood does not have to be made of brick. Moreover, sometimes it cannot be made from this material. Especially if it is a construction with a wall and side screens. Some models, especially those laid out without a foundation, simply cannot withstand the additional load if, for example, the hood is made of brick.

In such cases, it is better to make a simple brazier with a protective cap made of sheet steel with your own hands. To fix the box, you will need to weld a frame of steel pipes, as in the drawing.

This design will withstand any wind.

Below we will consider the option without a chimney (although it can be installed), but with an exhaust hood lined with a cone of hollow bricks. More precisely, the entire structure is composed of a lightweight type of this material. This is important, since the total weight of the building depends on it. This means that the lower part of the barbecue - a table - can be laid out of brick according to the traditional "box" pattern.

But most importantly, when using hollow bricks, there is no special need to fill in a massive foundation. It will be enough to make pillows from gravel and a small screed from concrete.

Simple brazier with hood

The table can be folded from blocks.

This option is simpler and does not require the cost of additional purchase of bricks. But the upper part, the base plate, the sidewalls and the hood of the brazier will need to be laid out of brick.

There are two options for laying out a brazier with a hood - with a mortgage cap and a regular dome made of bricks on a cone.

Cover cap option

The simplest case of arranging a hood above the hearth was discussed above. But not everyone likes the appearance of a brick brazier with a metal hood box installed on top. Although there are options that are quite interesting in design.

Therefore, for those who are important to preserve the natural brick appearance of the brazier, you can use an unusual technique. The hood of the hood is laid with a brick. That is, outwardly this part of the brazier looks like it is made of bricks, but in fact there is a steel cap made of galvanized or painted steel inside, which is lined with bricks.

Cover cap option

The scheme of ordering and laying blocks over the hearth of the barbecue is shown below.

In this brazier project, additional thermal insulation of the walls in the form of fireclay tiles is used. Why is it done? The design of the brazier is planned with a blower, an ash pan and a grate. The air flow is strong enough, so the temperature in the hearth rises to 800-1000OWITH. This makes it possible to burn even relatively damp firewood on coals.

If you do not use the grates built into the table, refuse to blow the blower, then you can do without fireclay bricks. Still, you have to cook meat on an open fire, and fireclay contains a huge amount of heavy metal oxides.

But it is necessary to protect the walls and the hollow brick hood, especially if you cook meat on the grill in winter. The hearth produces a huge amount of hot water vapor, which easily penetrates the thickness of the brick mass. And of all brands of brick, hollow is the most porous, therefore it is easily destroyed when water condensate freezes.

A simple brazier with a brick hood

First of all, you need to make a small base. You can get by with a gravel pillow, but it is more profitable to fill in a small screed. Stones, scraps of steel wire, the remains of the grid will go into the slab. It is enough to dig a hole on the bayonet of a shovel, lay a film, stone and wire, pour it all with M100 concrete. In a couple of days it will be possible to build a table of foam concrete under the hearth.

The base is laid out from D700 brand blocks in 3 rows, the total height is 75-80 cm.

Now you need to solve the problem of how to assemble the stove under the hearth of the barbecue. The simplest solution is to lay several bars of reinforcement 18-20 mm.

A couple of sheets of metal 2-3 mm thick are laid on top of the reinforcement, and you can lay out a brick, make a slab.

In the center, the brick is laid out on the metal with grouting with a refractory masonry mixture with clay for fireplaces (so that the seams do not crack). Everything else, the front and side parts, is collected on a regular solution.

Be sure to control the level of masonry so that there are no blockages along the edges. It took 8 rows of hollow bricks of a normal module to make a brazier box.

The ninth row is a strapping one, to form the transition from the walls to the conical section. That is, the dome of the hood is formed.

In order to lay out the front row of bricks, you must first fix the steel corner with a shelf of 40-50 mm. The masonry will go over the metal support. If lining with fireclay is planned inside the brazier, then the same corners must be sewn from the inside along the top and bottom rows in the masonry walls. Chamotte will stand on the corners without adhesion to the main masonry. This will unload the wall, plus an air gap is formed.

After laying the dome over the barbecue, the outer and inner surfaces of the walls must be cleaned of excess masonry mortar, if possible, wipe the cracks and joints.

Outside, the brickwork is coated with a water repellent. It does not allow moisture to be absorbed into the pores of the brick. The inside can be opened with a protective layer of liquid glass. The temperature of the walls in the upper part (hood area) is low, you can even use heat-resistant paint.

Budget brazier with a chimney

One of the options for choosing a site is in the courtyard of a private house. Usually the site at the time of the start of construction is already paved with tiles. There is no need to take it off. It is enough to make a cement-sand screed on top, and in a couple of days you can start construction. A screed is needed to level the base.

The brazier is completely built from solid red brick (forming, not pressed). In order for the masonry to turn out with dressing of the seams, the first row begins with a half brick. Then the second row will start with a whole stone.

Budget brazier with a chimney

When laying out the rows, the masonry horizon is necessarily controlled using the building level.

On the ninth row of masonry, you need to form a slab. To form a cross member, two paired steel corners are laid on opposite walls.

How to make a simple brick brazier with your own hands: diagrams, drawings, photos

The first pair is placed on the edge, the second two corners - at a distance of a brick from the edge. In this way, it is possible to form a slab for the barbecue from three rows of bricks.

Next, you need to form a niche for the hearth of the barbecue.

Now you can lay out the walls to their full height. From the stove to the base of the chimney, you need to lay out 9 rows of brickwork. The jumper between the walls is also laid out on steel corners.

Now the most important thing - inside the brazier you need to lay out protective masonry. You can use fireclay, but it is expensive, and the temperature inside is not so high. It is permissible to make protection from ordinary bricks, but it must be selected material of good quality, without cracks and defects.

Protective masonry is made in a quarter of a brick on a masonry mixture for fireplaces. Moreover, between the walls of the barbecue and the protection there should be a gap of 5-10 mm. Due to the gap, the protective masonry, when expanding due to heating, will not break the outer walls of the brazier.

On the second row of internal masonry, steel plates are laid in the seam; a steel frame-holder for skewers with kebabs or a barbecue grill will rest on them.

The internal masonry is completed by laying bricks with an arch. The material can be laid out on a strip bent by an arc with a section of 5x50 mm. It is needed until the masonry mortar sets.

Next, the chimney transition is laid out. In each row, the number of blocks decreases by one. The base of the pipe is already formed from 6 stones. The height of the building turned out to be 2.2 m, with a chimney - 4 m.

Barbecue grill with chimney and sink

Combine harvesters are especially popular. This is no longer a hearth for frying meat on skewers. This is practically a summer kitchen in the open air. Such barbecues are built, as a rule, in gazebos on a ready-made foundation.

You can pick up a project with a high chimney, but, as practice shows, building such a barbecue combine is difficult and expensive. It is more convenient to install an ordinary prefabricated metal chimney into the stove, and install an exhaust hood for ventilation. Moreover, it can be easily fixed on the roof beams of the canopy.

The construction begins with the markup. It is applied directly to the concrete floor of the gazebo, and you can immediately lay out the brick. In this case, it is full-bodied, molding M200.

The base of the future brazier-combine is laid out in the first row, a frame with a valve for the ash pan and blower is immediately installed.

Next, you need to fold the body of the furnace. On the sixth row, the firebox door is mounted, and the side bricks will need to be cut out for the installation of grates.

A chimney pipe is installed on the back side.

While it is not fixed, but at the end of the construction of the brazier-combine, the pipe will need to be fixed with a clamp.

Fireclay is laid inside the firebox on a cement-clay mortar. There must be an air gap between the outer walls and the fireclay.

Next, you need to form a plate directly under the brazier itself. For this, the technology of casting concrete floors is used. First you need to make supports, for example, put a few columns of bricks. In this case, 5 supports.

A sheet of foam plastic 4-5 cm thick is laid on top, the dimensions are selected according to the dimensions of the future plate. 2 rows of bricks are laid out on top of the foam, a lattice of reinforcing bars is laid and the space is filled with masonry mortar.

The foam and supports are removed after a couple of days, after the final solidification of the plate, poured as a base for the barbecue.

Spread the walls of the brazier flush with the body of the already laid out side stove.

Now you need to make a compartment for washing. The walls of the box for installing the sink are laid out of brick in the same sequence as for the stove. On the penultimate row, 3 steel strips are laid in blocks.

These are the base elements. They are required in order to form a sink countertop.

While the solution hardens, fireclay tiles are laid inside the brazier. A mixture of liquid clay, lime and cement is used as a masonry adhesive mortar.

The sides are laid out with full fireclay. The dimensions of the brazier turned out to be relatively small. Since the design of the hearth does not provide for a mount for skewers or a holder for a grill barbecue, the roaster can be used to quickly heat food or roast meat in foil on coals.

In fact, almost all composite, multifunctional structures are built without an additional frame-holder over the coals. This is done intentionally to preserve the universal character of the brazier. Many barbecue owners have several interchangeable grills. With their help, you can brew coffee, tea, broth (it will turn out faster than on the stove), bake vegetables and, of course, fry meat on skewers.

A large oven with a stovetop is often used for cooking in cookware.

The sink is glued into the brick worktop using ordinary silicone.

To connect water in a summer cottage, you have to use an external tank with a pump. The sewer is connected either to a portable tank, or a pipe is laid to the gutter (septic tank).

How to make a simple brick brazier with your own hands: diagrams, drawings, photos

It remains only to finish the assembly of the furnace. On fireclay, you can install a hob or a grate for baking food on fire.

The design of the harvester-brazier is such that it can work in the open air. An additional chimney pipe allows the stove to function almost autonomously, regardless of whether there is a canopy over the combine or not. You just need to make an additional mount. For example, if the brazier is built in the backyard under the wall of the cottage, then the pipe can be fixed with metal dowels - clamps driven into the masonry of the house.

Usually, such structures are laid on the back side with a wall-screen, 1.5-1.8 m high. A brick screen can also be used to fix a steel chimney pipe. Its windage is small, so even a couple of fasteners will suffice.

It is not easy to build a brick brazier with your own hands if you do not have at least a minimum experience with stone. Even when building a relatively simple structure, you must follow the instructions and recommendations for laying mortar bricks. Most of the problems arise not because of an unsuccessful design, but because of the poor quality of the masonry.
