The history of the appearance and development of the first chainsaw
The key parts that were subsequently installed on the instrument appeared at the end of the 19th century. The “relative” of the modern chainsaw arose at the beginning of the 20th century. The invention belongs to a mechanical engineer of German origin. He presented his brainchild in 1926. It was during this period that he filed a patent for a mechanical chain saw. The device had an electric motor.

The equipment is quite heavy. It is cheerfully about half a centner and required several physically strong people to use it.
A short time later, in 1929, a lightweight model was introduced. However, despite all the efforts of the engineer, the weight decreased by only a few kg. Experiments to increase power and reduce weight continued. The inventor decided to replace the electric motor with a gasoline one. In the same year, he showed a new model. It was a chainsaw with a power of 6 liters. s., and weighing 46 kg.
It was the model, released in 1929, that subsequently evolved to a device of a modern look.
In 1943, on special order from the Wehrmacht, engineer Stihl creates a two-handed version of the chain saw. The unit turned out to be especially light and weighed 36 kg. In 1947, a lumberjack decided to upgrade his sawing equipment by changing the chain to include C-shaped teeth. But due to their heavy weight, chainsaws were used only for professional purposes.
In 1950, STIHL introduced a new, ultra-light model. Her weight was 16 kg. A few years later, an even more advanced version was released. He weighed only 11 kg. From that moment on, the equipment began to be used not only in the professional field, but also in the household. In the future, the instrument was constantly upgraded. As a result, many models of different power, weight and feature set have appeared.
Chainsaws in the USSR
In the late 1920s, the USSR began to buy chainsaws from foreign companies. With the advent of 1935, their own production of this equipment began. But at first, in the pre-war and post-war period, the unit did not receive much demand in forestry. But work on models did not stop. A plant was launched that was engaged in the development and production of saws.
During this period, tools were not in demand due to the fact that the main part of the logging fell on the shoulders of prisoners serving their sentences in correctional camps. The mechanization of their labor was not supposed.
In the early 1950s, chainsaws for felling wood were practically not used. Then, power saws weighing 12 kg gradually began to be introduced. But fellers of the forest refused such equipment. They even arranged competitions and found out who could do the job faster - a feller or a chainsaw. With the onset of 1954, the old ways of felling wood came to naught. They were gradually replaced by more modern and functional equipment.
