If you directly answer the question of whether it is possible to drill a concrete wall with a drill, you should give a positive answer. A sufficiently powerful tool (at least 700 W) with suitable drills will cope with a similar task. About what requirements apply to the device and nozzle, described in this material.

Tool Requirements

If you think about whether it is possible to drill concrete with a metal drill, you should give a positive answer. It is quite possible to use a drill for working on concrete. But not every tool is suitable for such purposes. You can only use a model that meets several requirements at once:

  1. High power from 700-800 watts.
  2. The number of revolutions is optimally 2500 per minute.
  3. Possibility to work in the mode of drilling with impact.
  4. Depth control option.
  5. Two handles (main and auxiliary) for reliable holding of the tool in hands.

Drill Requirements

You also need to figure out which drill to drill concrete. You should choose a special nozzle with a tip in the shape of a triangle. It must be made of hard alloy, for example, Pobedit. Such drills during operation crush the thickness of the material, but do not break it.

A concrete drill, the photo of which is presented above, can be of 3 main types:

  1. serrated crown - the cut is represented by teeth that are soldered into the surface separately. They are highly durable, but will not be able to work in impact mode for a long time.
  2. diamond crown – have a smooth abrasive edge that copes well with concrete surfaces.
  3. diamond coated – there are diamond crystals on the cut surface. They are used to work with concrete slabs, rocky soil and monoliths.

Also pay attention to a few practical points. To make the drill last longer, it is better to choose those models that have the maximum fit of the teeth. Then they will last as long as possible.

The diameter of the sockets to be mounted must be 68 mm. As for the size of the nozzle, it should be no more than 25 cm in diameter. Otherwise, the engine may not cope with the load and even break down. If you choose the right nozzle, you can understand how to drill a concrete wall with a drill. The main stages of this work are described in the next section.

How to drill concrete

It is clear what a concrete drill looks like for a drill. Now you need to figure out how to properly work with a tool on a hard surface. First you need to make sure that there are no fittings, pipes or electrical cables in the thickness. If you are not sure, you should use a metal detector.

Then you can get to work. If you figure out which concrete drill bits are best suited for a drill, it will be easier to use them. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Attach the punch to the surface.
  2. Hit several times with a hammer to form a depression.
  3. Choose which drill to drill the concrete wall with and press the start button.
  4. Drill until the tool hits the concrete filler (crushed stone, pebbles).
  5. It also happens that the drill bumps into the reinforcement - then you need to change the place. If this is not possible, use a drill for metal (not for concrete), it is called a core drill. It can also be stepped, conical or spiral (depending on the shape).
  6. Then you need to take a punch and again hit a solid obstacle.
  7. After that, they drill again.

The described cycle is repeated several times until a hole of sufficient depth is obtained. To do this, you need to know what drills are needed for concrete. As already mentioned, they should have a triangular tip. It is desirable that the crowns have a diamond coating.

5 useful tips

To make it convenient to work, you should purchase a concrete drill for a drill, the photo of which is shown above. This is a necessary but not sufficient condition - there are a few more points to consider:

  1. Often a hole in the wall is made under a plastic dowel. Then it needs to be drilled a little deeper compared to the length of the dowel.
  2. You should always start drilling at low speed - then the drills cannot oscillate. After a certain depth is reached, the speed is increased. At the same time, you can switch the device to shock mode.
  3. If you often use the device for such work, the cartridge will wear out quickly, so it must be replaced with another one. In addition, it is necessary to change the drill for a concrete drill of the same size in a timely manner.
  4. Periodically, the drill is moistened with cool water to protect it from breakage, and the eyes from dust coming from the concrete.
  5. Also, to counteract the spread of dust on the drill, you can put on an ordinary plastic cup.

There is no doubt whether it is possible to drill a concrete wall with a drill. The tool is also suitable for these purposes, if it has sufficient power. But often you should not use the device for such work. For dense materials, a perforator is well suited. In this sense, an electric drill is suitable only for one-time work.
