A modern air conditioner can literally do everything: from high-quality temperature control to full humidification of the atmosphere. But in order for all functions to be performed correctly, a high-quality installation is necessary. In the article proposed below, we will talk about the specifics of mounting the air conditioner on the loggia - is it possible, how to do it, and the main features of the installation. Go!

Air conditioning unit on the balcony - design

All models of stationary cooling systems have 2 components: one is installed inside the room, and the second is outside, most often on the facade of the house. The component parts are interconnected by tubes through which freon flows.

An increase or decrease in temperature occurs due to the movement of the refrigerant through the tubes of the device. It absorbs or gives off heat, passing from one physical form to another (from gas to liquid, and vice versa).

Manufacturers recommend mounting the indoor unit closer to the ceiling, as most of the airflow accumulates there. It is also necessary to adhere to another important rule - the installation of the air conditioning system should be closer to the facade of the house in order to minimize the contact length of the two components of the model.

But what to do when mounting on an external wall is not possible? That's right - install the air conditioner right on the balcony.

A few more reasons why it is beneficial to install an external air conditioner unit on the balcony

Sometimes there is such a situation that, well, you can’t put an external system anywhere. Here are the main reasons:

  •  air conditioning spoils the appearance of the building;
  •  installation is prohibited due to the historical status of the structure;
  •  technical problems do not allow to put the external structure on the street;
  • there is no permission to mount a split system directly on the wall.

In such cases, if the air conditioner is mounted directly on the balcony, then the external unit is placed even on the glazed part.

Installing the outdoor unit of the air conditioner on the balcony, among other things, has a number of undeniable advantages:

  • the absence of high-altitude work saves money and time;
  • the case is always protected from rain or snow;
  • the distance between the constituent parts of the air conditioner is noticeably reduced;
  • simplified maintenance and repair if necessary.

However, the air conditioner on the balcony with glazing has its negative sides. Here is their list.

On an open (unglazed) loggia, everything is still clear - the air conditioner is installed without problems and any shortcomings.

An open space has a constant supply of fresh air and active circulation of the atmosphere - installing an air conditioner through a balcony will not cause overheating of the equipment. Consider only the only point - reduce the length of the block connection.

A different position has developed when installing an air conditioner on a balcony with glazing.

The option is completely contrary to the recommendations of the manufacturers. For free air supply, an open area is needed, which, unfortunately, is not available in such a situation.

So that the equipment does not overheat and does not turn off in an unforeseen situation, the owner needs to forcibly ensure high-quality air circulation in the system. This means that all doors must open during the active operation of the device, and the outdoor unit of the air conditioner on the loggia is installed near one of them.

Also, a large building can cause discomfort to residents due to noise. The sound, reflected from the glass of the balcony, will be even more strongly displayed in the living room, but the intensity of such sound depends on the power of the model itself - this option is not critical for everyone.

The best solution when installing an air conditioner on a loggia is to remove the glass frames for the operating season of the device (summer period). At the end, everything returns to its place. The procedure does not require much time and resources, especially when the entire balcony is finished with PVC inserts.

One of the additional ways to mount the external unit of the air conditioner on the loggia is a parapet. The whole system is placed on brackets. In legal terms, this is not a facade, so you can install freely. The main thing is to the place where the sun's rays fall the least.

In this format, there are no problems with the air supply. But no one is immune from the fact that some kind of ice block quickly "mows" the block from the balcony. To prevent this from happening, secure the visor over the external system.

One important point is spelled out in the technical installation rules - if your air conditioner weighs more than 30 kg, then you cannot install it on the railing. Even if you weld additional structures, you can’t get rid of the fine.

If there is only one balcony, and you need to cool several rooms at once, then buy a multi-split system: you can fix several indoor units to one external one. There are no problems and restrictions in this procedure.

How to install air conditioning on the balcony - the perfect solution

The most common mounting method is on the wall. It is also the most inefficient in terms of device operation. And that's why:

Firstly, the air will be very warm both on the balcony itself and in the room. When the temperature reaches +45, the air conditioner is automatically cut off - it cannot technically work under such conditions.

Secondly, in a given location of the module, it is necessary to keep the windows constantly open. The only option that will allow you to somehow maintain working cooling is to remove the glazing in the summer, but it does not work at other times of the year, therefore it is not relevant. Let's analyze a different way to install an external air conditioner unit on the balcony.

Is it possible to install air conditioning on the balcony?

We will not analyze the example with parapets and will only touch on the internal method. If your loggia has not only glass, but also insulation, install a split system on the floor. Best of all - in one of the corners of the room.

A conventional system takes in air from behind and to the sides, and lets it pass forward, so we it is necessary to maintain an even distribution of air mass so that warm air does not mix with cold. To reduce noise, we will additionally “pack” our outer case in a box firmly attached to the floor.

What are the advantages of the installation method:

  •  reliable design;
  •  free air transfer;
  • since we disassemble one of the walls in the place where air is released, we minimize the heating of the block;
  • low noise when packing the unit in a box.

The correct installation of the system on the loggia is as follows:

  • Preparing a place for a future outdoor unit: cut off part of the wall for air circulation, where the air conditioner will stand.
  • Under the placement of the body, we weld metal corners, and we will mount the block on the anchor. This circuit will both reduce vibration and make room for condensation.
  • We put the module on ready-made stands.
  • We install a soundproof box.
  • We drill holes for the tubes both in the box and in the wall.
  • We connect the internal and external modules with a tube with freon.
  • We cover communications with a channel cable.
  • We fix the drainage.
  • We check the system.

After installation, within 2-3 days, you can analyze the work for noise and cooling quality, and make changes.
