No Frost system in modern refrigerators
Perhaps, the young housewives and nobles do not know that even literally two or three decades ago there was one more indispensable item on the list of obligatory domestic matters: the monthly defrosting of the refrigerator. Yes, it is by hand, with the pulling out of all products, with the struggle with icebergs and hummocks in the freezer and with the waste on this uninteresting occupation of half a day off.
Modern models of refrigerators have long been equipped with auto-defrost functions. Inevitably, the frost that forms in the refrigerator is removed from time to time by a clever device on its own, without the participation of a person. Most often, a frost removal system meets the frost removal system.
But the drip deflation system has a strong competitor - a more advanced "No Frost" system, which means "no frost".
So, let's take a closer look at what "no frost" is and how it differs from drip thawing. What is Frost Free and Full No Frost?

How the frost is removed
In the drip systems, the evaporator cools the rear wall of the refrigerating compartment and freezers. As you probably noticed, the compressor in the refrigerator does not work continuously, the operating mode is replaced by stops. While it is working, the evaporator cools, and on the cooled wall next to it appear small ice cubes formed from the moisture in the air. Then the compressor turns off and the ice cubes melt, and the formed water flows down the special technological channels-grooves in the tray above the compressor. The compressor turns on again, heats up and the water evaporates. Meanwhile, new ice cubes are formed and the cycle is constantly repeated.
The "know frost" unit works differently. The main thing is how it differs from the drop system - the presence of a built-in fan-cooler.
The fan ensures a constant circulation of cold air in the refrigerator. In this case, the evaporator is located in a special compartment, usually between the freezing and refrigerating compartments.
The air enters the evaporator on one side, cools and comes out on the other side, leaving frost on the evaporator. Hoar frost during the non-working time of the compressor, water also drains into the tray, which is usually located outside the device, on the rear wall, directly above the compressor.
Only cold rooms are equipped with defrosting. The system "know frost" is equipped with both freezers and refrigerated cabinets
Frost Free and Full No Frost
The model with Frost Free marking is equipped with drip thawing in the refrigerator compartment, and in the freezer the "no frost" system is installed.
In the models Full No Frost in both parts the fans of the "know frost" system and their own evaporators operate. These are two-compressor refrigerators, the most efficient and powerful.
Pros and cons of "know frost"
Pros:
- The constant forced air circulation ensures faster cooling of the products and the minimum temperature difference throughout the volume of the refrigerating chamber.
- In the freezers No Frost products freeze faster.
- After placing warm food and opening the door frequently, the temperature in the refrigerator is restored much faster than in devices with droplet thawing.
Minuses:
- Block No Frost occupies the internal volume of the refrigerator, because of what the units "know frost" are less capacious than their counterparts with drip thawing.
- Higher power consumption due to the running fan. True, this difference is not so significant.
- Continuous operation of the fan increases the noise level during operation of the device.
- Products can quickly become airborne, so you need to pack them.
- No Frost units are more expensive than models with drip defrost systems.
Is it worth buying a refrigerator No Frost
The seller in the department of refrigeration units will, of course, agitate you to make this choice. But it is necessary to consider other arguments.
The presence of No Frost increases the cost of the cooling cabinet and energy consumption, ensuring an even temperature regime. But if you are satisfied with the large temperature difference inside the refrigerating compartment, you are accustomed to placing products on different levels, then for you this advantage loses value.
If you rarely open the doors of the freezer and do not put large volumes of food on it regularly for freezing, then fast freezing is not particularly necessary.
And if you live in a region where the climate does not differ by high humidity, then the elimination of excessive moisture that got inside the device when opening the door, too, becomes not very relevant.
Many well-known companies specializing in the production of refrigeration and freezing appliances, produce units No Frost in a limited assortment, since economical Europeans do not too readily buy more expensive model. But in South-East Asia, such models enjoy a steadily high demand, as the climate there is humid and hot.
In any case, you can not do without manual defrosting at all: according to sanitary norms, the refrigerating cabinet needs to be thawed and washed at least once a year and a half. And drip thawing, and No Frost will save you from a mountain of ice and snow in the freezer, but not from the need to regularly wash the device.
