A kitchen table with your own hands is an opportunity to save money, and a way to provide the kitchen with unique furniture that fits perfectly into the available space. However, it is important to correctly determine the size and shape of the future design.

How to make a wooden dining table

A table made of solid wood is beautiful, natural and, as a rule, expensive. But you do not need to buy such a table, because you can make it yourself with your own hands, no less qualitatively and for much less money.

So, to make a dining table with your own hands you will need:

  1. 4 things. Leg-balusters for the table, 73 cm high and not too thin;
  2. For countertop: 4 dry edged wooden boards 1 m long (for a table 60 cm wide);

.
  1. For the frame: 2 boards length 80 cm and 2 boards length 40 cm.

Prepare tools: a plane, a grinder or a grinder, an electric jigsaw for cutting boards, a circular saw, drill (with a drill 8 mm), screwdriver, sandpaper, self-tapping screws (30 mm), joiner glue, dowels, clamps (it is desirable). And, of course, useful pencil, tape measure, gloves and goggles.

For finishing the table you will need a varnish, stain or paint along with the primer. First, we make the table top. To do this, it is necessary to fit all 4 boards as closely as possible to the same length - 100 cm. If your boards have not been sawn on a sawmill, then they need to be trimmed also in width and thickness. Then they must be carefully ground with a plane. The better you polish the wood, the smoother the table top will be. Well work the edges so that the boards are as close as possible to each other.

We will connect the boards not with screws and nails, but with glue and dowels (choppers). To do this, make the same marks on the edges of all boards in steps of 10-15 cm and drill holes for dowels with a drill 8 mm. Then we sand the edges and apply them to the holes and into the holes that are made with the carpentry glue. Now chopiki treated with the same glue we drive into the holes and in turn we connect all 4 bars. Surplus glue on the surface is removed by nesting and sanding it, as well as all the edges of the plane. At this stage, you can walk along the table top with a metal sponge to give the tree texture.

So, the table top is ready. Now you need to fix the legs and make a base for it.

To do this, you must exactly fasten the balusters with short transverse boards with glue and screws. The glue dries for at least 12 hours.

We fix the legs to the long cross-bars and drill holes in them in order to later install the countertop.

After the glue in the frame has dried, you can proceed to install the countertop on it (frame).

If you want to make the table longer and wider, then you need to strengthen the table with two additional cross bars, as shown in the photo.

.

So, the table is almost ready, it remains only to treat it with varnish or stain or paint, pre-primed.

In what color should I paint the table? Be based on personal preferences and the color of the rest of the furniture. Below is the most universal option - the table top and legs are covered with stain.

You can see the main mistakes of tree cutting with your own hands in this video.

.

If you like gloss, then the surface of the table can be covered with stain, and on top - with varnish (example in the photo below), or simply cover with varnish.

You can paint the legs in white, and cover the countertop with stain, to get a design like the next photo.

How to make a kitchen table from chipboard

A kitchen table with your own hands made of laminated chipboard is a practical and budgetary solution. Such countertops are covered with decorative plastic, stable at abrasion. Typically, the dimensions of the table cloth are 3000x600x36 (26) mm, but today it will not be difficult purchase a sheet of chipboard, sawn to the desired dimensions or negotiate in a furniture workshop for the sale of a suitable trimming.

You will also need:

.
  • Connecting and face strips;
  • End edges;
  • Screws.

Even if you get a tabletop of the right size, you will need to process the ends in addition - this will make the result more attractive, and also protect the base from moisture. For these purposes, you can use a special furniture edge on the basis of polyvinyl chloride or glue the edge band. The variant with the edging is considered more practical for a dining table and suitable for home masters.

For the kitchen table will need and the corresponding support - you can buy the legs individually or give preference to the ready base. It all depends on which option your drawings provide. The most common option - round legs D = 60 mm and height 71 cm. They can be collapsible, with height adjustment, and also differ in design - matte, painted, shiny.

In our case, these will be chrome glossy rod legs with a diameter of 60 mm, as well as a countertop made of white chipboard with a thickness of 36 mm and a white plastic T-shaped edging with girths is chosen for it.

So, how to make a dining table with a table top made from particleboard:

  1. The material is marked according to the drawing. At the corners of the rounding should be a radius of 60 mm.
  1. The work table is attached to the table using a jigsaw.

Use a saw with reversible teeth, as otherwise the chips of plastic coating are possible. First, the angle of the chipboard is cut with a jigsaw with a margin of 2 mm, and after it is finally rounded by a grinder.

.
  1. A groove is cut for the furniture edge.

  1. The edge is stuffed. Before that, the ends of the product must be covered with silicone sealant. The sealant is laid in both the edge and the upper edge of the countertop. For the printing of the edge, rubber rubber is used. After that, the excess sealant is removed.

  1. The feet are fastened. To do this, a pencil marking is done on the back of the countertop. In most cases, the legs are placed 100 mm from the edge.

For fixing the holders use self-tapping screws with a countersunk head about 20 mm long. After that, the legs are put on the holders and fixed with a hexagonal key - everything, your new table is ready.

How to correctly determine the dimensions

By the principles described above, you can make tables larger or smaller in length and width. How to choose the optimal size for your family size?

If we are talking about a standard kitchen with dimensions from 6 to 8 squares, the drawings will show a typical design with a height of 750 mm and a perimeter of 800 * 500... 1200 * 600 mm.

The dining table with their own hands should be calculated for a certain number of people. Usually it corresponds to the number of residents - 3-9, but a couple of vacant places is still added for the guests. For large companies a good solution will be a folding design.

Calculations are conducted as follows: the number of persons is multiplied by 60 ("working" perimeter per person). As for the width of the countertop, here we follow the recommendations of specialists - its optimal values - from 800 to 1100 mm. Narrow tables are complicated in serving, and wide ones are inconvenient for those sitting.

.

If you decide to make a kitchen table with your own hands oval (round), then you have to calculate the length of the circle - diameter *, 4.

Form selection rules

The shape of the kitchen table plays a significant role in the perception of space. A universal construction is a rectangle or a square with right angles. It is very balanced and can be installed close to the wall or in the center of the room, saving space.

Completely comfortable and beautiful are the oval models, but they do not have a large capacity - the most dimensional product will not be more than 8 persons. In addition, they require large areas - more than 8 square meters. meters, because they can not be put to the wall.

The round table can also be called a universal and traditional option, suitable for both a very small and a large kitchen. But it has less room than a rectangular table.

The best option is a rectangular table with rounded corners. How to make our own hands is such a table from the CPD, we have already described above.

Rules of care of furniture

After the dining table is manufactured, you will need to take care of the long operating period of the product.

So, furniture made of wood, polished and varnished, needs careful care, as it can easily be scratched. In addition, there may be signs of contact with hot. As a basic care for wood, a universal polishing compound is selected.

If it is a table top made of MDF or chipboard with plastic coating, care for it is not complicated and consists of regular washing with detergents.

Do not forget that the kitchen furniture should be moved away from the heating appliances and from the walls bordering the street. Harmful to wooden furniture there will be direct sunlight.
