  1. Division of an Adult Bush

Gooseberry has an excellent ability to form additional roots in places where shoots grow. This excellent property gardeners successfully used to get new bushes. In the autumn after the leaves fall or in the spring before the beginning of the growing season, the bush can be divided. An adult large plant is dug up and neatly divided into small bushes.

For shrubs suitable bushes younger than 5 years. Each separated part must have a young shoot and roots.

The resulting seedlings are immediately planted in the garden. For the active development of new shoots in the spring the plant is cut almost to the ground. If you make such a trimming of the bush, in the fall for breeding there will be a strong bush with young branches.

Horizontal cuttings - one of the easiest ways to reproduce gooseberry cuttings. Grooves not less than 10 cm deep are pulled out around the bush opposite one-year strong shoots. Developed shoots are placed in prepared indentations and pressed with wooden or metal hooks in several places without falling asleep with earth. After the vertical shoots appear, and then grow up to 10 cm, the grooves fall asleep 6 cm with a layer of humus. After 14 days, hilling is carried out for another 10 cm. In hot weather, moisture removal is provided, covered with dry grass or leaves. After the leaves fall, the branch is cut off from the bush, divided by the number of vertical shoots and transplanted.

Vertical-type rye gooseberry breeding layers are excellent for old plant bushes. In early spring or late autumn, the bush is completely cut off. In the spring there will be new shoots. They are given to grow back up to 20 cm. After this, the shrub is filled up with new shoots with good soil half the height of the grown branches. During the season, make some additional hilling and carefully watered. The soil from the bush is removed in the fall. Rooted shoots with their root system are cut and planted on the beds.

To get a young bush with a beautiful crown, shoot tips pinch in the middle of summer.

The arc-shaped , as a method of reproduction, is similar to the method of using horizontal taps. Powerful shoots bend into the groove and pressed with just one hook. From each shoot, you can get only one additional gooseberry bush. New bushes are much stronger than with a simple horizontal retraction, but in smaller quantities.

Reproduction of the gooseberry by cutting

Green, lignified and combined cuttings are used to produce young gooseberry bushes. Each method has its advantages and can be effectively used for the preservation and reproduction of the favorite gooseberry variety.

Green cuttings of up to 12 cm in length are cut from July 1 to July 10, until they are woody. It is best to use cuttings of the upper branches. For a more rapid formation of the root system, the lower end of the cutting is immersed in a special solution for 3 cm and left for 12 hours. The solution is prepared from 1 liter of water and 150 g of heteroauxin preparation. While the cuttings are gaining strength for growth, they proceed to the preparation of the substrate from equal parts of sand and peat. Such a composition of the substrate provides aeration and drainage, perfectly retains moisture.

In order to make the cuttings rooted, they are placed in greenhouses or greenhouse films. The soil is cut into the soil by 3 cm. The distance between the cuttings is not less than 5 cm. The air temperature in the greenhouse in the first 10 days should not be more than 30 degrees with humidity up to 100%.After 10 days, make the first fertilizing with nitroammofoska at the rate of 30 g per square meter. Reproduction of gooseberry cuttings ends in the spring, when young plants are planted on the garden so that they grow and gain strength.

Lignified cuttings are used due to the excellent features of the gooseberry to build up the missing organ on any part of the plant. In early September, cuttings of 15 cm in length are cut from the new shoots and tied into a bundle of material. Wet sand is poured into the container and the prepared material is buried in it for 30–60 days. During this time, there is an influx at the cut-off sites - callus. Throughout the winter, the cuttings are kept in the basement, covered with pre-moistened sawdust. At the end of April or in the first decade of May, prepared cuttings are planted in beds under the slope.the distance between the seedlings is from 5 to 10 cm. The earth around the cuttings is compacted, it is well watered and sprinkled with sawdust to preserve moisture.

When planting the cuttings, 2 buds are left above the soil surface so that the plant quickly forms a shrub.

Combined cuttings - green cuttings with small pieces of old wood. Gooseberry reproduction begins after new shoots grow to a maximum of 10 cm. They are cut, capturing 2-3 cm of last year's wood. The prepared material is put into the water. Further planting and cultivation follows the green grafting method.

    Perennial branches

One of the easiest ways to plant gooseberries is to use branches after spring pruning. Three-year branches are best suited for this, where half of the young growth is cut. The prepared material is placed in the grooves, leaving a one-year increase at the top. Fall asleep fertile soil, abundantly watered. When the first signs of growth appear, fertilize with nitroammofosca.

We told how to propagate the gooseberry in various ways on the dacha beds while preserving the taste of the variety you liked. There is also a graft reproduction method, but it is more complicated. This method of reproduction is not suitable for all summer residents and requires more skill.
