What is the difference between Vietnamese visually blasted piglets and the dignity of animals of this breed? Compared to old breeds of domestic pigs, the possibilities and potential of these animals are not fully understood, and breeders are working to improve the available material. But it is already clear that the four-legged immigrants from Vietnam have a great future.
Characteristic features of Vietnamese low-sprouted piglets
Asian or, as often said, Vietnamese pigs stand out:
- in early maturity;
- stable weight gain;
- unpretentiousness when choosing a feed;
- undemanding content;
Calm females are considered caring mothers, while quite prolific. Puberty of males occurs at the age of six months, and in females a couple of months earlier. On average, pigs give two litters per year, each of which may have up to 18 pigs.
At home, Vietnamese piglets live in humid subtropical and tropical climates, but this does not prevent animals from successfully adapting to the more severe climate of the Russian central zone.
Pigs have excellent immunity, they can easily withstand common diseases of domestic animals, and with good care, Vietnamese piglets are even more profitable to breed than many already proven breeds. This is facilitated by the fact that animals are distinguished by a strong constitution, which speaks of a meat orientation, and their meat is juicy, the amount of bacon is small.
What do Vietnamese piglets look like?
Vietnamese vislobryushie piglets have a very memorable appearance. Among the characteristic features of the breed:
- mainly black coloring of animals;
- wide chest, powerful back and strong short legs that make pigs stocky;
- shortened muzzle structure;
- small standing ears.
The name of the breed is due to one more peculiarity - volumetric pendulous stomachs appearing in the growing Vietnamese piglets.
Such an “decoration” in an adult boar can practically reach the level of the soil, which, however, does not prevent animals from maintaining mobility and enviable activity.

The funny appearance of young Vietnamese pigs, as in the photo, sometimes attracts the attention of fans of ornamental animals. But in this case it must be remembered that, despite cleanliness, the piglets remain representatives of their own species, and miniature pigs quickly turn into powerful animals. By puberty, animals reach a weight of 30–35 kg, and an adult breeding boar or sow weighs up to 150 kg.
Content of Vietnamese piglets
For ease of care when breeding Vietnamese piglets, animals are given a dry, warm, ventilated room. The floor in the pigsty should be flat, durable, suitable for repeated cleaning and disinfection. It is best if it is concreted. On top of this coating is a boardwalk.
In comparison with other breeds, Asian pigs are rather small, therefore they do not require much space for placement. Machines are made taking into account the possibility of their daily cleaning. - one male;
- one sow with litter.
For the winter period, Asian pigs are equipped with heating in places where it is particularly important to keep warm when small piglets appear, whose immunity and protection from negative environmental factors depend only on receiving mother's milk and human care.
In the warm season, animals are provided for walking. The yard must be protected from the wind. In case of rain, they surely arrange reliable sheds; at the height of pig growth, boards are stuffed about which you can scratch your back, take out the feeders and containers with water.
Catering for the breeding of Vietnamese pigs
The novelty of the breed generates a lot of not the most correct information concerning, in particular, and animal nutrition. Sometimes it is advised to build Vietnamese piglet diets exclusively on green fodder. Indeed, the volume of the stomach and peculiarities of the digestive system of pigs allows you to absorb a large amount of grass, but in this case it is not necessary to wait for good weight gain and meat quality. Greens will force animals to eat huge amounts of feed to produce a lot of waste, but the effectiveness of such a diet is low.

What to feed Vietnamese pigs at home? In homestead farms, the ration of piglets bred for meat is built on high-calorie grain mixtures with the inclusion of green plants, which is especially justified in the summer period. Instead of the roughage that pigs usually get, such as straw or root crops, viscose-bogged Vietnamese piglets are offered hay.
Grain feed mixture based on grain crops is made with emphasis on barley and wheat. They are well digested and provide bacterial weight gain. These cereals should account for up to 70% of the feed volume.
Difficult to digest cereals, for example, oats, peas and maize, include 10% of the total in the feed:
- All types of grain are pre-crushed and filled with boiling water to obtain a nutrient wet mixture.
- 8–9 liters of water should contain half the volume of cereals and a small spoonful of salt.
- After 10–12 hours of steaming, the feed is ready.
- Vitamin preparations, digestive stimulants, and cod-liver oil are added to food for greater efficiency.
For sows, waiting for offspring and already caring for the piglets, the menu is made more diverse by adding fermented milk products, conversely, and chopped boiled eggs to the mixture.
Good results are given by feeding Vietnamese visually bluff piglets with thick cereal porridge. In winter, pre-harvested pumpkins and carrots are introduced into the diet. Vietnamese Piglet Care for Self-Breeding
From the first hours of life and until about one month old, Vietnamese piglets receive breast milk. Mineral supplements are designed to improve the processes of digestion and beneficially affect the state of bones and immunity.
Can't keep Vietnamese piglets for milk only for too long. Rapidly growing young animals begin to lack iron, calcium, other trace elements and nutrients. Long feeding may not have the best effect on the health of the sow.
Therefore, from the age of 20 days suckers are introduced into the feed with thick cereals based on mixed feed with the addition of vitamin complexes. To prevent anemia, pigs receive injections of specialized drugs.
From one month of age, young animals are gradually weaned from milk, converting to adult mode and feeding ration. By this time, healthy active Vietnamese low-fat piglets weigh more than 2.5–3.5 kg.
Breeding Vietnamese pigs is not only a way to quickly and safely provide the family with useful meat, but also a profitable business. By the time the pigs are ready for slaughter by 3-4 months, however, in order to get more weight, you can wait until six months, when the peak of the growth of animals passes.
