The effect of dishwasher capacity on its performance

click fraud protection

Unlike other household appliances, where high power indicates work efficiency, the dishwasher is exactly the opposite. Here, high power is more a disadvantage than a virtue. In Western countries, where savings in everything has long come to the fore, try to buy low-power dishwashers to reduce power consumption.

What determines the power output of the

A large amount of electricity goes to water heating, hot drying and pump operation. If the production of a dishwasher were used high-performance technology, it does not need a lot of energy. On the contrary, such a model will cost little, trying to economically use resources.

The power consumption of a dishwasher depends on its class. The most economical can be considered as class A, B and C dishwashers: they have the highest rating, as they consume only 0.67-1.5 kW.Class D and E models get an average rating because they have higher power. Finally, representatives of the F and G groups are considered the most inefficient in terms of energy consumption - their average is from 2.3 to 2.7 kW.Usually these include old dishwashers.

There are also class A + models that, with the “economical wash” mode, consume no more than 0.63 kW per cycle. But this is not the limit: manufacturers are constantly improving their devices, wanting to enter the market with the most efficient dishwasher.

In turn, economical models can differ significantly among themselves in terms of energy consumption:

  • class A - from 0.67 to 1.06 kW;
  • class B - from 1.07 to 1.1 kW;
  • class C - from 1.11 to 1.5 kW.

It is obvious that the power consumption of the dishwasher of the third group is one third more than the first. An excellent reason for buying a higher performance model. However, you can save in another way.

Saving electricity

Since most of the electricity is used to heat water, it is sometimes recommended to connect the device directly to a hot water pipe. They say, so the dishwasher will take much less consumed kilowatts of energy. And indeed: the dishwasher takes water from the water supply, compares its temperature with the desired one and heats it only when necessary. But will it help you save?

It all depends on how hot water is in your home. If it is heated by a boiler, then it is advisable to compare the amount of kW it needs with the one needed by the dishwasher. If your electric stove is more economical than a dishwasher, you can use hot water.

If you are a resident of an apartment building and use the central water supply, again pay attention to the cost of a cube of hot and cold water. It may be cheaper to heat it. As for geysers, usually the cost of gas is slightly lower than the cost of electricity, and therefore it is possible to use water heated with a column.

When connecting the dishwasher to electricity, remember that the socket should not be too close to the sink or pipes with water / gas, otherwise it may cause a short circuit and even fire.

We have selected for you several models of economical dishwashers. Thanks to modern equipment, they are able to be content with a very small amount of electricity. At the same time, the quality of washing, of course, does not suffer at all. Here they are - high technology.
