Truly large, as in the photo, fragrant alokaziya can be found in the humid forests of East and Southeast Asia, for example, in tropical regions of Japan and China, in Assam, Bangladesh and Borneo.

Alocasia odora is known as the “night lily”.Such a nickname for a plant, and its official name appeared due to fragrant, creamy inflorescences appearing in summer. The ear of this species of alokaziya is light pink or yellowish cream, and the perianth, 20 cm in length, has a silver or bluish-green hue.

The height of adult Alokazia can reach 3.65 meters, and the luxurious leaves of the local population are used as vans or umbrellas during seasonal rains. In North Vietnam, the sticks of aloazy odora are used to prepare folk remedies for cough, fever and all sorts of pain.

The plant is inedible due to its high content of green oxalate in the green and underground parts. And in Japan, the local ministry of health has even issued a decree banning the use of alokaziya in food. This is due to the similarity of the odora species with edible plants Colocasia Gigantea and Colocasia esculenta.

Alokaziya gageana

The type of alokaziya shown on a photo very much reminds a plant already described, but is much lower than alokaziya fragrant. Variety that fell into the gardens of America and other countries from Malaysia, grows only up to 1.5 meters. The leaves of this species are bright green, with wavy edges and a pointed tip. Depressed veins are well distinguished on the 50 cm long leaf blade. The plant is thermophilic and demanding on the composition of the soil and the abundance of moisture.

Alokaziya Calidora

Thanks to the breeding work of Leri Ann Gardner, flower growers have obtained a hybrid Alokazia Calidora, derived from the interspecific crossing of alokaziya smelling and alokazii gageana.

This plant gives large leaves vertically on strong cuttings that can grow to a meter long. The leaf plates of alokaziya kalidor, as in the photo, are rather thick, with a rounded top edge and a graceful sharp tip. In a warm tropical climate, plants reach 160–220 cm in height.

Hybrid Alocasia odora and Alocasia reginula

The crimson or brownish back side of the leaf plate has an interspecific hybrid, obtained by crossing alokaziya odora and alokazii reginula. The plant in appearance was closer to fragrant alokazii, but significantly smaller in size. Longer dense than the odora, the leaves of this species of alokaziya clearly visible characteristic of the Regina texture and divorce from light streaks.

Alocasia wentii

Shown in the photo, alokiya venti although similar to the described species, does not compare with them neither the height nor the size of the leaves. This perennial plant is rarely more than 120 centimeters. It has large, heart-shaped oblong leaves of gray-green color with a noticeable silver glow and a purple back side.

Alocasia brancifolia

The silvery shade of foliage is inherent in many types of alokaziya. No exception and the plant presented in the photo. Even more interesting foliage from one of the largest representatives of the species - Alokaziya Potrei. The powerful plant, from 2 to 6 meters high, is almost lignified in the lower part, and its strong stem can reach 40 cm in diameter.

The length of powerful dark green veined petioles is one and a half meters. Sheet plates can also grow up to one and a half meters in length, and they are pinnate, deeply incised and leave a leathery impression. The edges of the leaves are wavy, which only adds decoration to this unusual look of alokazii.

On adult specimens you can count up to 6–8 large, up to 30 cm long, inflorescences. This type of alokazii, as in the photo, likes to settle in dense thickets, where the surrounding vegetation provides it with shade and helps to preserve the soil moisture.

Alokaziya Portodora

The hybrid of alokaza odora and alokazii portei obtained in the center of the study of aroidal aoid was called alokazia portodora. Powerful plants of the bred species have been recognized by many lovers of alokazi as more interesting than the famous alokaziya macrorrhizos or large root.

Giant leaves are held on vertical brownish or purple sinewy petioles. The shape of the leaf plate is close to the foliage of the aordazia odor, but from the pontea she got beautiful wavy jagged edges.

Plants have a good growth rate. Already in the first year, if conditions allow, it grows to a meter and a half. And then it can easily step over the bar 2.5 meters. To do this, this type of alokazii requires high humidity of the air and soil, abundant nutrition and heat.

Alokaziya macrorrhiza

This type of alokazii, belonging to the family of aroids, was obviously one of the first to be discovered and described by scientists. Living in the tropical thickets of India and other South Asian countries, large, up to 5 meters high, plants in different regions are called Indian alokazii, as pictured, mountainous, large-scale or healing. The officially recognized name of the species is alokaziya macrorrhiza.

Raw greens eat domestic animals and monkeys, which caused the appearance of another plant name - monkey tree.

Tubers of alokazii curative, in the photo, are considered a curative for many diseases and are used in Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese traditional medicine.

In addition to plants with even green foliage, today you can see photos of alokazy with unusual variegated leaves, in which green areas alternate with white or yellow. The most appreciated Alokazia is the large-root Variegata, which has, as in the photo, spectacular foliage and relatively small size.

The black macrorrhiza variety of black stem pictured in the photo of alokaziya stands out from a number of related plants with dark purple or brown leaves and leaf stalks, which was the reason for the name of the variety.

The maximum size of large-sized alokaziya of this variety is 2.5 meters, which allows you to grow a culture in large containers. The leaves of the plant are green, large, up to 90 cm in length.

Alocaza, a large root variety plumbea, or metallica, strikes with dense leaves with a clear metallic tint. A silvery shade is also present on the back side of the leaf plates. Petioles in this variety are brown or purple. The height of an adult plant does not exceed 2 meters, and scientists were lucky to see wild specimens in a tropical jungle on the island of Java.
