First, never leave hyacinth bulbs in the ground for the winter. Of course, they can calmly survive the winter, but in the spring there will be weak and diseased inflorescences, and in a year you risk losing the plant.

Secondly, after flowering, the bulb must be restored within 2 months. During this period, fertilizing and moderate watering are necessary.

Immediately after the flowering of the bulb of a hyacinth, it is not recommended to dig it out, as it is possible to damage the flower. Leave the bulb for a while in the ground, so that it will gain strength after flowering and before the rest period outside the ground.

Favorable time for digging up the bulbs for storage

The most ideal time for digging hyacinths after flowering was done correctly, this is the end of June - the beginning of July. After the leaves have turned yellow and begin to dry, you can start digging. The bulbs removed from the ground are carefully cleaned, the remaining leaves are cut and placed in plastic blown boxes for pre-drying for 3-5 days in a dry room. Then dried bulbs are cleaned of excess husk, dry roots, separated by large children and placed in prepared boxes for storage.

When digging hyacinths and how to store, it is not difficult to remember. But there is another important point, without which success in growing can not be achieved. We are talking about the duration of storage of the bulbs. A full rest period is 95 days and 60 days of them must be kept at a temperature of 25-27 degrees, then it is necessary to keep them cool and reduce the temperature to 17 degrees. In such conditions, the bulbs will spend another 30-35 days. Do not forget about humidity. So that the bulbs do not dry at all, you can systematically spray them with water and ventilate the room.

During storage, the bulb often forms small children, which must be separated and transplanted into small pots. It is more expedient to grow them for 3-4 years, so that they gain volume, and then plant them with everyone.

How to plant a hyacinth, practical recommendations

The optimal time for planting hyacinths is the beginning of October. Before the soil freezes, the bulbs will have time to take root and gain some strength before hibernation. It is better to prepare the site on which the transplant of hyacinths is planned after flowering. To do this:

  • choose a place where there is a lot of sun and where water does not accumulate;
  • to treat the soil to a depth of 30-40cm;
  • to make humus and mineral fertilizers.

Do not chase the weather for planting bulbs. If you see the sunny day and plant the bulbs ahead of time, the hyacinths that start growing may die in winter. And if you overdo them and plant them later than the first half of October, then there is a possibility that they will not have time to take root before the soil freezes.

In the autumn, the bulbs are driven out of the house, planted in open ground. This should be done before the first frost. In this case, if the weather is unfavorable, planted hyacinths are well warmed, covering with a layer of leaves or a protective film from rain and snow.

After reviewing our recommendations on how to care for hyacinth after flowering, you will certainly prolong the life of this plant in your garden, and enjoy its bright and fragrant flowers. But finally, I would like to note that in order to avoid problems with flower stalks, and the bulb grows healthy and strong, it is necessary to adhere to the basic rules:

  • ensure a sufficient period of rest of the bulbs;
  • observe temperature conditions and appropriate humidity during distillation;
  • to provide optimum illumination during the forcing of the peduncle;
