Planting and transplanting Kalanchoe

A new instance of flower culture can appear in our homes by buying in specialized stores or in the case of donating a small process. In principle, it is absolutely unimportant how the Kalanchoe was acquired, perhaps it’s just the time to transplant a long-growing flower, it’s only important to plant it correctly. Favorable period for landing, of course, spring. First of all, it is necessary to prepare a soil mixture and container for plant placement.

The pot should not be too spacious, or you can place several taps in the same container at once. As for filling, the ground for Kalanchoe should be loose, you can prepare such a composition: mix in equal parts humus, sand, sheet and sod land. You can find and ready-made mixtures designed specifically for succulents. Handle the plant with care, as it has rather fragile leaves and stems. A drainage layer is placed on the bottom of the pot, and up to about half of the volume is poured on top. Further the shoot is located and the remained earth is filled up. The pot should be slightly shaken to fill the voids and shed plenty of water at room temperature. If the soil has strongly subsided, then it is necessary to produce one more bedding.

When buying a flower in a store, you should definitely transplant it in the near future. After all, in the windows of the plant are in pots filled with shipping earth, in which there are no nutrients, but there are only flowering stimulants. If you keep the plant for a long time in such a soil, it can lead to its death.

Home Care

The transplanted flower should be placed in a bright and warm place, because Kalanchoe belongs to light-loving crops. The ideal location is the south-west or southeast window. On the south side or when exposed to direct sunlight, the tips of the leaves may begin to turn yellow. As for the temperature, it should be no higher than 30 and no lower than 20 degrees from spring to autumn, and in winter it is desirable to provide a flower rest, reducing the temperature to an average of 15 degrees.

Kalanchoe is a plant that prefers a 10-hour light day. This allows you to achieve abundant flowering and full development of flower culture. That is why in the summer you should artificially reduce the day, and in the winter, on the contrary, slightly prolong it, highlighting the plant.

The next point is watering Kalanchoe. Yellowing of leaves can occur both with an insufficient amount of water, and with its excess. You can determine the specific cause during an external examination. If the leaves have darkened and twisted, then the amount of moisture should be increased, if the leaves are pale yellow and soft, then it is necessary to reduce the amount of water. Experts recommend watering the plant more abundantly in summer and moderately in winter. For this purpose it is worth using only warm and distilled water. If the room where the flower is hot, you can arrange spraying on the sheet. However, such a procedure should be carried out quite rarely, because with increased moisture, the flower may begin to rot.

Also, the appearance of the flower can be spoiled with a lack of mineral substances or their overabundance. Experts recommend feeding the plant 2 times a month during the growth period( that is, from spring to autumn).For this purpose, you can use the already prepared mixture, for example, for cacti.

Florists advise you to look at the plant more closely, sometimes you can understand what elements are missing from the leaves. In particular:

  • browning the edges of leaflets causes boron deficiency;
  • slow development of plants and small leaves indicates a lack of nitrogen;
  • spots on the leaves and the death of shoots is the cause of the lack of molybdenum;
  • yellowing, wrinkling or dying off of the lower foliage indicates an excess of phosphorus.
