Pre-mixes for leveling the floor are precisely formulated at the factory. They have all the substances and components necessary to achieve the result. With their help, leveling the floor yourself is not difficult. The only drawback is their high price. Therefore, many are wondering: is it possible to make such a composition at home?
To answer, you need to consider what the mixture is made from at the factory. It should include such basic components:
- Astringent - in this role are gypsum or cement. After mixing with water, the mixture becomes hard as a stone. Therefore, the floor holds loads well, does not wear out and does not crumble;
- Mineral fillers - this can be fine ash, expanded clay gravel or quartz sand of the desired fraction. They form the basis of the layer, make the floor durable and reduce shrinkage;
- Polymer additives are a large group of substances (plasticizers, inhibitors, modifiers), which form the properties necessary for the floor;
- Mineral and organic substances. Tartaric or citric acid slows down the curing process, carbonates increase laying comfort. Glass fiber reinforces the surface well.
Is it possible to repeat the composition of the house
The mixture for bulk floors is very complex in composition, as well as demanding on the quality of raw materials. Any deviation from the formulation can have the most unpredictable effect on shrinkage, delamination or fluidity.
Typically, the factories for the production of mixtures develop their recipes and keep them in the strictest confidence. True, on the websites of some companies you can find the composition and number of components. Theoretically, if you get them, you can mix it yourself.
But not so simple. If it is cement, then it can be of a different brand, class, grinding and density. How to find out which one is needed?
Ash can also react differently with additives, increase the solidification time or reduce the frost resistance of the mixture.
Chalk helps to put the solution more conveniently, but it absorbs water from it. Therefore, more water needs to be added. But how much? A small excess dose of water will lead to delamination of the cement. As a result, the floor will quickly crack and swell.
Polymer additives need liquid or dry, in what sequence should they be kneaded? No one will answer these questions.
Some mixtures contain more than 20 components with unpronounceable names. If they can be found, then only in large volumes, and for the house you need very little. It will all cost a lot.
In the recipes for the preparation of mixtures may contain errors in the calculations made by accident or intentionally. So you can’t rely on them.
Another problem: mixing all substances requires professional equipment and technology. At home, repeating all this is impossible.
It turns out that it is better not to try to save on leveling compositions for the floor. Why reinvent the wheel if it’s cheaper to buy the finished mixture in the store.
