Why you should not do dry cutting tiles

When working with tiles, no matter which, its inevitable cutting. For this, there are special tools and technologies on which the quality of the cut, and, accordingly, the entire styling, depends. Features of dry cutting

For cutting tiles, there are special tools - tile cutters. The simplest models are designed for straight cuts. More expensive models expand to radial or curly cutting.

Also for cutting tiles use a grinder. Armed with such a device and a special disk, it is possible to produce cutting both directly and diagonally. Its use requires special skill, otherwise damage to the material is inevitable.

The fact is that when the disk is rubbed against ceramics at high speeds, the material heats up, due to this it begins to break, chip, crack in different directions. Therefore, the tile is cut after wetting it with water. But this is not enough. Therefore, at all stages of cutting, tiles are abundantly watered.

Constantly watering the tiles, wielding tools and making sure that the material does not deteriorate is quite difficult. Therefore, craftsmen often exclude from the process the moment of watering the tiles with water. In this case, replacement of the cooling system is required. Fresh air can replace it. Therefore, such work is carried out on the street or under wide-open windows.

Note! They use special disks with holes for dry cutting, which create a natural cooling system. For cutting tiles with a grinder, diamond-coated abrasive discs are used.

When cutting using the dry method, not only does the risk of tile chip breaking increase, but also a “side” often appears at the cut site. It is insignificant - only a couple of millimeters. But this is enough to show the curvature on the inter-tile seam or the tiles themselves do not adhere well to the wall. In this case, the bead is mowed neatly with the same grinder.

And the biggest drawback with dry cutting is the appearance of a dust cloud. Chipping microparticles from ceramic tiles instantly take off and soar in the air until they settle to the surface. There are so many of them that a “fog” forms in the room after a few cuts. Therefore, when carrying out such work, safety glasses and respirators are required.
