Making a bay window with curtains: basic rules

Bay window - a multifaceted, semicircular or rectangular part of the room, which protrudes beyond the plane of the walls. Its presence makes the room brighter and more interesting. However, this architectural element may also be unused if you do not competently beat it. It is important to choose the right curtains for the bay window, given the purpose of the room and the type of glazing.

Kitchens with bay windows are usually quite spacious rooms. Functional zones in them are often several. With a sufficient size of the room, there may be not only a dining and working area, but also a place to relax. In some houses, the bay window has a trapezoidal shape and is located in the corner of the room. For it, both lifting roller blinds or Roman curtains, as well as classic long window decoration options, are suitable.

Only short curtains can be used if the bay window is in the work area. The fabric should not fall below the windowsill. Blinds and roller blinds in this situation will be the best choice. You can also consider Austrian or Roman models. When planning to buy curtains for a kitchen with a bay window, it is worth remembering that in this room the air is filled with greasy and moist fumes. Water-repellent impregnation for curtains in the working area is almost mandatory. At the same time, for each wall, it is worth organizing your cornice so that you can conveniently ventilate the room. If the window is panoramic - curtains are provided on each leaf.

Curtains or not very dense long curtains can be used to decorate the windows of the bay window in the recreation or eating area. For avant-garde and classic interiors, this will be very appropriate.

The illusion of spatial depth can be created by supplementing the light curtains with a darker lambrequin. However, it should be remembered that dense fabrics are suitable only for rooms of a sufficiently large area. They make the interior heavier and seem too massive even with average room sizes. The space that is next to the bay window will seem unnecessarily simple. She will not occupy the useful area, but at the same time will make the room more comfortable.
