Recently, one of the new types of decorative materials for walls - cullets - is becoming increasingly popular. Having believed the advertisements, people try to glue them everywhere: in the bedroom, in the hall, in the corridor, in the bathroom, in the kitchen. Such wallpapers are presented as a rather practical and, moreover, unique solution. They are quite expensive, as they are manufactured using sophisticated technology.
Manufacturers claim that cullet consists of completely natural components, so when burning there is no risk of poisoning with toxic substances. Another advantage: cullet can be painted several times, they are resistant to mechanical stress, are not afraid of water, the walls under them are well preserved, they let steam through.

Cons of glass
However, judging by the reviews on the forums, this type of coverage has significant disadvantages. To properly stick the cullet, the wall must be perfectly flat, since they absolutely do not stretch. Wallpaper needs to be painted in several layers, but they still remain scratchy. So, it is better not to glue them in a house where there are animals and children. To remove the glued wallpaper from the wall is quite problematic: they can be torn off only with plaster.

When gluing, it is very difficult to achieve smooth joints, the wallpaper gets wet, deformed and bubbles, the entire texture of the wall shines through. Painting should help, but painting them is very difficult. The paint consumption is huge. It will not work to paint in one layer - you need two, and usually three. The paint will also make all the flaws and flaws even more noticeable. The effect of burlap is obtained. It is advisable to adhere to the recommended paint consumption rates and not to make too thick layers. Otherwise, cullet can fall off from the gravity of its own weight. And, given such difficulties in work, their cost comes out very large.

How to behave in the kitchen?
But that is not all. Although manufacturers claim that you can glue such wallpapers everywhere, there are places where they will not last long. For example, often people are interested in the question: is it possible to glue wallpaper in the kitchen? Glue, of course, is possible. But the kitchen is a place with high humidity, the formation of steam. When cooking, grease or oil may get on the walls. It’s not scary if it is PVC panels or tiles - they are easy to wash. But the fat on the cullet is very problematic to remove. Those who have already used cullet, assure that all wet mud clogs into weaving. Washing them with a soft sponge is almost impossible. If you clean with chemicals and a brush, then the surface will quickly become unusable.

Therefore, in the kitchen, cullets will need special care, but even if all the operating rules are observed, they are unlikely to last very long. That is, they will hold on, but in appearance they will look like a dirty oiled bag. You can, however, repaint. But what's the point of doing this often? So, considering the option of wall decoration in the kitchen, it is better to take something more practical.
