Plumbing seals: varieties, characteristics and application

From the name "plumbing seals" you can understand that such products are used in the installation and replacement of plumbing. Sealers allow you to isolate the elements of systems from thermal, electrical and other effects, thus preventing their premature failure.

In our time, the following types of plumbing seals are most in demand:

Asbestos cardboard

This is a very common sealing material. It can be as sheets up to 2 mm thick, and cords or threads. The shape of asbestos cardboard, as can be seen, can be completely different.

To process the sockets of pipes made of cast iron, use a liquid mixture based on asbestos fiber and cement M400 in a ratio of 4: 7 with the addition of water. When working with asbestos-containing materials, a respirator should be worn;

Paronitis

It is used as a reliable cushioning material for various pipe joints.

Paronite is made from rubber (artificial, natural), asbestos and powdered fillers. Usually it is presented in the form of rings of various diameters, able to withstand temperatures up to 100 ° C and above. This allows the use of paronite in heating systems, as well as in socket and flange joints;

PTFE

Seals made of this material may have a tape or cord-like appearance. Such products are used to seal both threaded joints and cranes and valves.

Ftoroplastovy cord is used to seal locknuts, indispensable in pipe communications. The tape, in turn, is in demand when connecting pipes of small diameter.

Since the cross-sectional shape of the fluoroplastic cord can be varied, different gaskets are used for glands. The cross-section of this type of sealant may have a square, rectangular or round shape, and as for its appearance, it may be twisted, rolled up or woven;

Technical rubber

This is usually sheet material. There are maslobenzo-, acid-, heat-, frost- and alkali-resistant, as well as food technical rubber.

Of technical rubber, gaskets, seals and valves of all kinds are made. Rubber gaskets can be used in both cold and hot water systems. A second application requires a denser material;

Tattered linen

This seal is indispensable for threaded pipe joints of water systems. Scruffy flax is a strand impregnated from a special composition containing natural drying oil. The maximum temperature resistance of this type of gasket is 105 ° C;

Resin strand

It is in demand when sealing ceramic and cast-iron pipe sockets in plumbing and sewage systems. The resin strand consists of bast fibers that have been processed using wood resin;

Impregnating paintwork materials

This is primarily linseed oil, white and red.

Natural drying oil is in demand for impregnation of sealing and cardboard gaskets, as well as the dilution of paints, primers and meerkat.
Lead red lead is indispensable for impregnating flaxen strands. To do this, it is diluted with drying oil in a ratio of 2: 1.
Whitewash is treated with seals used in the arrangement of hot water systems. They are also ideal for impregnating flaxen strands.
