Sometimes situations arise when you need to remove decor elements, glass or a mirror, a coating that is glued with "liquid nails", which belong to the category of special glue. There are several ways - how to do it yourself, so let's consider the possible dismantling options here.
Where to start?
To carefully remove the material glued on the basis of the "liquid nails" composition, it is important to take care of safety in advance. If this glass or mirror is recommended:
- cover the bottom area around the place of dismantling with thick cardboard or spreading a dense burlap;
- the glass surface of the decor to be removed must be protected by sticking a wide adhesive tape on top (this minimizes the appearance of cracks and chips, prevents fragments from injuring hands if the operation is unsuccessful);
- for the glass surface to peel off - you will need to use a hot air stream, turning on the hairdryer to the maximum, which will help soften the layer of dried glue and gradually remove the decor (mirror or glass, tile) with glued surface;
- you need to constantly hold the material with your hands so that it does not spontaneously slide down and crashes or deteriorates;
- you can pry off the material with an ordinary construction spatula to catch on the edges and corners, and then begin to carefully remove it - to separate the coating or decor with a string wire.
Dismantling Tips
- Do not deal with this painstaking procedure yourself, especially when the material is impressive in size or has a large coating weight - find yourself an assistant.
- When doing this work, you must always use gloves or work gloves with rubberized areas on the fingers to protect the skin from possible injuries, to ensure a good grip with the removed material.
- If it is not just material that is removed from liquid nails, but glass or a mirror, it is worth putting on protective plastic glasses - this will save your eyes in case of unsuccessful dismantling of the decor.
- If the material is on removable furniture elements or other interior details, you need to remove them and positioned horizontally - it’s much easier and safer to carry out the intended volume works.
- Dissolving "liquid nails" (special glue) will help the use of appropriate chemicals - white spirit, gasoline or acetone.
- It will be possible to separate the material planted on the "liquid" nails with the help of a rubber hammer and a wide metal ruler - opening the ruler in the gap between the material and the surface on which the coating is glued can be tapped on it with a hammer and move towards to the center.
Do not rush, but it is better to do everything very carefully so as not to damage the material, peel off the canvas with minimal damage to the edges and the main field.
