Items at hand

As a rule, vintage items are sold in antique stores or auctioned. Such costs can afford a small number of people. Therefore, in order not to spend the sky-high sum for some vintage chest of drawers, you can make such a house.

To give things a vintage look you will need sandpaper, paint brushes, a whole piece of laundry soap, cotton pads, acrylic paint in different colors and the subject of staining.

/

Before you begin to work, it is worthwhile to understand how many colors will be used for painting. There may be two, or maybe three. It all depends on the imagination. For example, if you take three colors, it can be - dark gray, mustard and beige. And the order of application will be this: first, the base color, "peeking" from under the paint - this dark gray, then comes the mustard color, which will play the role of a transition, and finally, beige color - the most important.

To create the interior of the house, for creative purposes, chalk paints are very often used. They can be used in this case, in order to get a greater effect of antiquity. These paints are convenient in work, and their color palette is wide enough. Chalk paints can be used even when working with plastic.

/

Also, as an option, you can use paint with a matte surface. It is mainly used for painting ceilings. But before working with this paint, it is necessary to apply some kind of primer, since natural oils can remain in the wood, which can spoil the painted surface. At the same time, it is recommended to work with a roller, not forgetting to protect the working area with plastic film.

Tips from experienced designers

  1. Before you get down to furniture and things, you need to train your hand on an unnecessary item, for example, a bar of wood;
  2. When working not with a textbook, but with the real thing, it is worth starting staining from the back;
  3. When applying paint, you need to ensure that there are no smudges. Smears should be made large, but neat.

Everything is ready - we begin

Suppose three colors are used. The first is the base, which will be visible through attritions; the second is transitional; and the third is the main one, which will cover a large area of the subject.

/

First you need to cover the subject with the base color and let it dry well. Next, those places that will be scuffed, you need to evenly rub with soap. After this, you need to apply a second layer - a transitional color, and wait for it to dry well too. When the second layer dries, with the help of an emery cloth, you need to wipe the places that have been soaped - the first layer will appear.

/

Then you need to again soap the future scuffs - now they can be of two colors. And it's time for the main color. It must be applied to the entire surface except that which has already been processed with sandpaper. When the third layer dries, you can wipe with sandpaper those places that have been soaped after the second layer. The final touch is to dampen the cotton pad with the base color and walk, patting slightly along the scuffs and around them.
