Types of sealing materials

2. Bituminous - a material with good elasticity, inexpensive, durable, and adheres well to a damp surface. More suitable for a metal roof.
3. Silicone - such a sealant is well multifunctional, quick hardening, resistant to temperature fluctuations and ultraviolet.
4. Acrylic - close to silicone, but cheaper. It is used only on a dry surface, it adheres well to the coating. But his waterproofing properties are not very high. They recommend using a protective tape with it for seams and joints.
5. Polyurethane - obtained by polymerization of the resin. It is toxic, besides the most expensive. But it is easy to apply, hardens quickly, serves for a long time and effectively, works at sub-zero temperatures. Polyurethane sealant is ideal for any roof.
6. Two-component - made on the basis of silicone rubber and adhesive paste. It is convenient with good adhesion to all materials, retains its properties in a wide temperature range, is easy to apply, and leaves an even seam.

Leak can also be eliminated with the help of mastic: bitumen or polymer. These are resin and rubber compositions with the addition of binders. Polymer mastic is more expensive, has better adhesion properties. Before using any mastic, the roof must be well cleaned of dirt.

Different types of sealants are very different in their qualities. Some kind may be ideal for one roofing material and completely not suitable for another. Therefore, the reliability of the repair will depend on the correct choice of sealant.
