How to change the dimensions of the door leaf

The situation when the door you like is slightly inconsistent with the parameters of the existing doorway, alas, is not uncommon. Although resizing the door leaf is not considered an easy task, it is still solvable.

Most often, a mismatch occurs in the height of the canvas. This is due to the fact that the existing standard assumes the presence of gaps at the bottom and top of the door no more than 1 cm. This often causes a tight fit of the canvas to the door frame and damage to the latter to the extent of intensive use.

To change the dimensions of the door, the canvas must be removed from the hinges. To do this, you must first stock up on a wedge and a screwdriver. The loop is released by slipping the wedge from the bottom and using a small force with a screwdriver on top. If it is not possible to release the mechanism, then you can try to turn it or, in extreme cases, use the hammer to gently knock the axis out of the loop.

The dismantled door is laid on a solid base, and the opening is carefully measured. Having determined the required parameters, markings are applied to the door. The lines must be drawn smoothly and clearly, since it is along them that the cut will be made.

In order to remove excess sections of the blade, you will need a circular saw, a cutter and a ruler. To the extent that some tools are an increased source of danger, working with them requires the observance of safety measures, including the availability of personal protective equipment.
The process of cutting the canvas requires sufficient attention and endurance. In order to prevent irregularities, it is recommended not to finish the saw immediately to the end. This will not allow the material to break off.

If the issue of changing the size of the canvas concerns a hollow type door, then all the described actions are performed by analogy. The only difference is that after the completion of the cutting process, the cut off part is to be processed. It is necessary to squeeze everything superfluous from it, leaving an even and thin board, which should fit the place of cutting. Using carpentry glue, the board is attached to the door leaf and left for several hours until it dries completely.

The key to success of a resized door is the availability of all the necessary tools for the job, as well as the accuracy of the marking and cutting. If during the work to show accuracy, then the changed door will be completely devoid of signs of outside interference.
