How to easily and cheaply change the appearance of interior doors using vinyl film

The need to give the interior doors a new look can be dictated by a change in the design of the room, cosmetic damage or the desire to focus on these parts of the interior. In any case, a special vinyl film is ideal for this.

This material is easy to purchase in any hardware store, it is inexpensive and involves a huge variety of patterns, paintings and color combinations. Its practical qualities are no less valuable. Glue is applied on one side, and the front decorative part is covered with a polyester layer on top, which gives a beautiful shine and at the same time protects from damage. Such a film does not leave an unpleasant odor, does not get wet, is very easy to clean, does not attract dust and does not require any special care. Consumers also note resistance to different temperatures, as well as the fact that the paint remains bright for a long time, it does not fade even in direct sunlight.

To update the door, you need to prepare a clerical knife, scissors, a pencil with a ruler, emery paper (large and small), putty knife, putty for wood, a couple of rags and a tool needed to remove the door.

When choosing a film design, it is necessary to take into account that the entrance door in the hallway should be matte in moderate colors. The fact is that such a surface hides fingerprints, small dirt and looks quite stylish. And for interior doors, bright colors are suitable, which can serve as an additional decoration of the room. Before gluing, you need to carefully prepare the surface - remove all excess paint, smooth out the roughness and sand it with a large emery cloth, and then fine sandpaper. Marked scratches and potholes must be covered with putty, and then the surface is treated with a primer, the door is removed from the hinges, all handles, locks and glasses are unscrewed from it. As gluing does not need to remove the entire protective film at once, it is necessary to act gradually, smoothing the glued areas with a dry rag, acting from the center to the edges. After the film has seized, you can screw into place all the functional parts and hang the door on the hinges.

In no case should you cover the film with varnish, most likely it will still lie unevenly, moreover, it will be extremely difficult to remove self-adhesive from the door. By the time you want to replace the film, it should be warmed up first. This can be done with an ordinary hairdryer, a building fan or a heated fan. When the glue softens the film will be easier to remove. You can also use hot water - soak the film properly and after a couple of minutes start removing. Residual glue is easily removed with solvent or alcohol.
