A characteristic feature of bathrooms and kitchens is high humidity. It is she who causes the appearance of streaks and stains. To prevent the occurrence of this unpleasant phenomenon, it is necessary to use protective paints.

When buying paint, you should pay attention to whether there is a mark on the label about the suitability of the composition for use in wet rooms. It is also necessary to consider the type of paint, which may be water repellent (for surfaces, exposed to water vapor) or waterproof (for surfaces exposed to exposure to water).

Acrylic moisture-resistant paint is an inert material in relation to household chemicals, which can also prevent fading and peeling. It is characterized by excellent adhesive properties. Among the disadvantages of moisture-resistant acrylic paint, shrinkage, a high probability of color change upon drying (for some grades), and relatively low adhesion to plastics are worth noting.

Water-based paint is able to prevent the spread of fungi. Such a composition does not turn yellow and does not swell under the influence of water, so it is ideal for actively operating wet rooms. The disadvantage of water-based paint is the ability to degrade the anticorrosive properties of metals. Latex paint protects surfaces from direct exposure to water and contaminants. Of the minuses of such a composition, it is worth noting the high cost.

Alkyd enamel paint is a well spreading paint that provides minimal consumption and, consequently, significant cost savings. After drying, it does not form irregularities, which allows you to get attractive and neat surfaces. The disadvantages of alkyd enamel are the ability to emit an unpleasant odor and the presence of internal stress.

Silicone paint has excellent hygienic properties, a high degree of wear resistance, ease of care and resistance to cleaning agents. The disadvantage of this composition is the high cost. Do not forget that water-based paints, when dried, take on a more attractive appearance than similar oil formulations.

Glossy paints do not crumble and dry out pretty quickly, but they do not withstand external influences very well. They are suitable for painting bathrooms. Matte paints are able to maintain their even color for a long time and hide cosmetic defects, while being versatile in use. Such compositions are more suitable for kitchens.

It is good if fungicides are contained in moisture-resistant paint. These substances prevent the spread of fungi, rot and mold in rooms with high humidity and poor ventilation.
