It may seem to many that choosing a floor skirting is very simple, because no one pays much attention to this. However, if you act in this way, then the overall perception of the interior can significantly deteriorate, because much depends on the little things.
The skirting board should match the room by type of material, shape, style, width and color. Do not think that this material is only necessary to hide the gap between the wall and the floor.
How to choose a color
Most often, the shade of the skirting board is matched to the color of the flooring, in which case the space just merges together, which means to make mistakes when choosing the right shade, it would seem are minimal. It is possible to use the baseboard a couple of tones lighter or darker than the floor covering.
Another option is to choose a shade for the color of the walls, but this should only be done when the walls have the same color according to the entire surface, in the case of staining - they must be well dried, otherwise it will be very difficult to guess with a shade.
A good option would be to use a plinth to match the color of doors and platbands. It is desirable that the width of the plinth is the same as the width of the door platbands, this will make the interior especially harmonious. For those who are not afraid of experiments, and want to make their room bright and original, you can advise using the color of the skirting board that will not match any of the items in room. The most popular is the white shade, it will be an excellent choice for those who so far want, but are afraid of such cardinal experiments.
Production material
If earlier exclusively wooden skirting boards were used, now there are much more production materials. In addition to the tree, it can be:
- PVC is the most affordable material, it is chosen for tile, linoleum, carpet;
- MDF and veneer are suitable for laminate and parquet;
- Ceramics is a rather expensive material, but it blends perfectly with ceramic tiles.
Flexible baseboard
When the room has non-standard sizes and shapes, it is best to use a plastic flexible baseboard. Often it is sold in the form of a long flexible tape, therefore, during installation, the seams will be almost invisible. The material is resistant to temperature changes, moisture, can take any form. The disadvantage is the relative complexity of the installation and its cost.
