Baroque style in the interior, popular among the rich

click fraud protection

In the 16-17th centuries, Italian cathedrals began to take shape in a solemn and luxurious style, striking the imagination and emphasizing the greatness of the church. The style came to the taste of the clergy and nobility, and was used in the construction of temples and palaces throughout Europe. In the 18th century it became known as Baroque.

Today, the Baroque has many fans who want to decorate this style. However, taking up the design on your own, you need to clearly understand which elements will create the right environment and which ones will harm it.

/

The main features of the style are pretentiousness and theatricality. But, gathering together the design details, it is important to remember that all of them should be a logical continuation of each other. Baroque is appropriate in a large space - a spacious room or hall. Small volume does not accommodate the massive elements inherent in the style.

/

The baroque color scheme is wide, but light colors are more often used. A style business card is a combination of white and gold. White is also replaced with shades of champagne, beige, peach.

In modern interpretations, dark colors are common: chocolate, burgundy, green, blue.

How to decorate the walls, ceiling and floor in the interior of the baroque?

In the decoration of the walls they combine different textures: plaster, wood, marble, mirrors, fabric or wallpaper with its imitation. Murals traditional for a baroque interior are welcome. The main thing when choosing materials is that they:

  • were expensive and looked luxurious;
  • combined with each other.
/

An obligatory element is stucco molding: complex, large, most often gilded. To separate the textures, cornices and moldings with ornaments, portals, columns and pilasters are used.

The ceiling can be multi-level, vaulted or spherical. Like the walls, it is decorated with stucco, gold, frescoes. A modern option is a stretch ceiling with a mock print. The main thing in the design of the ceiling - it must be combined with the walls. Baroque is characterized by the continuation of the stucco molding of walls on the ceiling.

/

The choice of materials for the floor is wide: marble, granite, majolica, parquet. Use a bulk floor imitating these materials, or decorated with a pattern. At the same time, the floor should not be an accent of the interior and contrast with the rest of the finish.

Interior filling

The baroque room is lit with a heavy chandelier with crystal pendants. In a very large room there can be several such chandeliers, complemented by sconces in the same style.

/

Huge windows with massive handles are responsible for daylighting. Fancy large fittings are also present on carved doors framed by stucco molding or a portal. Windows are decorated with multilayer curtains made of expensive fabrics, repeating in the upholstery of furniture, on canopies and pillows.

/

The furniture itself is massive, carved, from expensive wood, with gilding, inlays. An indispensable attribute of the interior is a large mirror, decorated around the perimeter with stucco molding or heavy artsy frame.

Baroque style involves an abundance of expensive decorative details: statues, painted vases, richly decorated watches, candelabra, paintings. At the same time, it is important not to turn the premises into a kind of antique shop.

/

It is not easy to assemble a baroque interior, but a luxurious room with correctly selected details will delight guests and demonstrate the taste and status of the owner.
